Premier Kenney is doing another impromptu Facebook live Q&A. I'm listening in at about the halfway mark.
Once again, the comments on this are overwhelmingly negative, including hundreds of people spreading falsehoods about vaccines. The Premier is explaining why vaccines are important, using Israel as his main example.
NEW: Premier Kenney says Education Minister Adriana LaGrange will make an announcement about schools tomorrow. He says he expects schools in "almost every part of the province," to open next Tuesday.
Kenney says additional resources for students struggling with math and literacy will be available following the disruptions to in-person learning. An announcement on that is coming soon, he says.
Q: When can kids play sports again

A: Stay tuned, an announcement about that is coming "early next week." Kenney hints youth sports are coming back soon.
"We will not facilitate vaccine passports," Kenney says. But, he says you can use the AHS vaccination form as proof of vaccination to enter foreign countries who require vaccine passports.
Kenney now answers a question claiming Mosques are open at 100%, and churches are not. He says that's not true. The same rules apply to all religious groups.

"Alberta has done more than any province in Canada to keep congregational worship open," he says.
Holy moly, the comments are truly vile. Premier Kenney is being accused of many things that I won't repeat.
Premier Kenney now criticizes changes to Alberta's health care system over the past 30 years.

"reorganization for reorganization's sake is not useful," he says.

He is now praising how effective AHS has been during the pandemic.
Q: "Jason Kenney I would not want your job because no matter what you do you can't make everyone happy"

(that's not a question)

A: Kenney is now talking about polarization during the pandemic. Says he "deeply regrets" the division in Alberta.
Q: Will masking still be a thing in public in September?

A: No, but maybe still in hospitals and LTC
Q: What lesson about governing have you learned during the pandemic.

A: Communication. Kenney says at the start of the pandemic, he assumed people understood why restrictions were necessary. He says public education could have been better.
Q: Please allow high school graduations to happen (not a question).

A: "Stay tuned" for an announcement. Kenney says outdoor events towards the end of June will be allowed.
Q: What is the plan for post secondary students in the fall?

A: Full in-classroom instruction begins in September. All sports and extracurricular activities will be back.
Q: Will you help restaurants?

A: Alberta has made $30K available for small to medium businesses. And, the feds have a wage subsidy program. And, Alberta covers 50% of WCB costs.

Basically, nothing new is in the province's plans.
Kenney is answering a question about Quebec and the Charter. He is displaying his impressive knowledge of the federation and its history. I think it's fair to say the Premier is a politics nerd.
Premier Kenney says he expects inter-provincial travel to be allowed again in July. He says he will push hard for that.
Premier Kenney says he expects Alberta's economy to have a great Q3 and Q4. He says tech companies are coming to Calgary, film and television is extremely busy and forestry is booming.
NEW: Kenney says he will announce a new job training (or re-training) program tomorrow.

Tomorrow sounds like a big day, news-wise.
Last question: "why is our Tim Horton's shut down but our Wendy's is open?"

A: That's a decision for the operator.

And with that, the Q&A comes to an end.

Minister LaGrange says closing the schools was not a move directed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (Dr. Hinshaw). This was the request of the school boards.
"We are committed to continuing in-person learning as much as possible across the province," Minister LaGrange says.
