On May 17 weather was so harsh that it wasn't conducive for our air operations. From 6:30 am on May 18 our ships went for rescue operations. We saved 39 survivors via air operations & we provided around 400Kg ration and water to one barge: Commanding Officer INS Shikra
Our ships are still conducting search & rescue. We conducted all the operations within limits of the machine. Search & rescue operations are very important mission for helicopters & we do practice this a lot in every 6 months: Captain Dushyanth Purohit
At midnight we got a call that P305 is in distress & we need to rescue the people. We prepared crew & decided & plotted area where vessel was positioned. Weather was very marginal when we first took off in early morning with winds gusting up to 50-60kmph: Commander Deepak Diwan
Pulling the aircraft out & launching the aircraft was a task in itself. We did it with safety & got airborne. Once we got airborne the weather was very-very marginal with heavy rains, visibility was close to nil & the sea waves were 5-6 meters: Commander Deepak Diwan
We proceeded towards the area & started looking for the survivors. We positioned our helicopters on top of survivors. There was no references for pilots to hover. We did our best & we recovered people on board: Commander Deepak Diwan
