.@unicefchief Henrietta Holsman Fore was forced to resign as trustee from Wellesley College in 1987 over racist remarks she made about the work ethics of blacks, Hispanics & Asians.
.@nytimes: "Ms. Holsman reiterated her statement that she had trouble keeping black assembly-line workers from going 'back to the street to earn more money' selling drugs."
Why did the UN never discuss this when she was named to head @UNICEF?
"In her confirmation hearing, Obama pressed Fore to explain the remarks. She said she was merely talking about stereotypes that exist about black workers—not what she believed. But Obama left the hearing unsatisfied & launched a probe into her background." chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-20…

For some people, any good news about Israel is a problem. It disturbs their worldview, and makes them angry. And so their reaction to this year's good news about Israel’s vaccines was to twist it into something sinister.
My debate at UNHRC's 46th session:
"The canard that began to circulate was summarized by the comic TV news presenter on Saturday Night Live, who said, “Israel is reporting that they've vaccinated half their population — and I'm going to guess it's the Jewish half.”
"This is exactly what many around the world now believe.
Madam President, I am taking the floor today to state for the record, before the United Nations, and before the world: That is a lie."
1/ “Mr. President: Never before, in the history of Israel’s seven decades of existence, has its men, women and children come under such a massive aerial assault, forcing them, at the sound of air raid sirens day and night, to run for shelter.“ unwatch.org/unw-testimony-…
2/ “I ask each ambassador in this chamber to take a moment and imagine terrorists deliberately firing deadly rockets at the airports of Heathrow, Charles de Gaulle, or Frankfurt; Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, or Tokyo. How would your government react?“
“Finally, we ask: If those who refuse to speak out for Palestinians—1800 Palestinians, if not more—who were starved to death, murdered, by Assad in Syria, but you only cry out when Israel can be blamed, then you are not pro-human rights, you are only anti-Israel.“
Human rights group @CubaCenter: “Israel is again subjected to attack from Iran-sponsored elements in Gaza & the West Bank to carry out Tehran's aim of destroying the Jewish state. Because the communist government of Cuba consistently opposed Israel in international venues...“
"...sent thousands of troops to fight against Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, sponsored and trained terrorists to attack Israeli civilians and continues to provide intelligence to Hamas and Hezbollah today, we feel compelled to assert our views at this critical point in...
"...life of the only democracy in the Middle East. Unlike the communist regime in Cuba, Israel protects the basic human rights of its citizens & those resident in its borders. The Center acknowledges & respects the right of any democracy to defend itself against outside attack...
British commander: “Mr. President, based on my knowledge and experience, I can say this: During Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli Defence Forces did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare.“
From 2009—yet still apt.
UNHRC testimony of @ColRichardKemp: “Thank you, Mr. President. I am the former commander of the British forces in Afghanistan. I served with NATO and the United Nations; commanded troops in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia..."
“and participated in the Gulf War. I spent considerable time in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, and worked on international terrorism for the UK Governments Joint Intelligence Committee.“
The United Nations should unequivocally condemn the 3,000 terrorist rocket attacks this week by Hamas against Israeli civilians, declare such acts a threat to international peace and security, and reaffirm Israel's inherent right of self-defense under the UN Charter.
It won't.
The United Nations should reaffirm the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
The UN should express deep concern at Hamas & Islamic Jihad acts of terrorism motivated by intolerance or extremism, and call on States to work together urgently to prevent & suppress terrorist acts, including through full implementation of international conventions on terrorism.
Former AP correspondent says source close to IDF suggests "there were indeed Hamas offices" in Gaza building that housed AP.
“Any press organization operating in a dictatorship is going to be compromised, and will further compromise itself to conceal how it has been compromised.“
From his 2014 @TheAtlantic article: “Hamas understood that journalists would not only accept as fact the Hamas-reported civilian death toll—relayed through the UN or through something called the “Gaza Health Ministry,” an office controlled by Hamas—but would make those numbers...
"...the center of coverage. Hamas understood that reporters could be intimidated when necessary and that they would not report the intimidation; Western news organizations tend to see no ethical imperative to inform readers of the restrictions shaping their coverage in repressive
