The following thread illustrates the danger of trump’s ability to learn on the fly, adjust quickly and do anything it takes to be the top boy. To know what we may be dealing with, buckle up Boxing fans, we’re headed to the 80’s🧵👇🏻
On January 22, 1988, Donald Trump hosted the first of two heavyweight title fights at trump plaza in New Jersey. He had no idea what he was doing. But, then he did. And he adapted quickly. 1988 was a banner year for Donald as outlined in this piece. politico.com/magazine/story…
For those who don’t remember or weren’t there, ‘88 Mike Tyson was the best boxer of the time, in his prime and at the peak of his powers. He was the fastest, strongest, hit the hardest, could take anyone’s punch (if any landed at all) and he was popular. He was ‘box office’.
Larry Holmes was 127 years old when he challenged Mike Tyson. Ok, he was 38, but like, I said, Tyson was 21, lean mean and whooping everyone. Holmes wasn’t ready, and he didn’t have a chance.
Not being one to pass up an opportunity to make the wrong decision, trump backed Holmes. Tyson ended Holmes’ career that night. But if you ascribe to #ETTD you know it wasn’t a devastating Tyson blow to Holmes dome that did him in, it was having trump in his corner.
In the ring, before the fight begins, you can hear a single person clapping. It is trump. He is standing next to Muhammad Ali. Ali was showing the signs of Parkinson’s then, and he stood in the corner of the ring; glasses shading his eyes (hiding the masking really).
Anyway, this was trumps first foray into the heavyweight title fight industry. He promoted the fight, hosted the fighters etc. Presumably, the night went well. The events of this night seem fine on their face.
trump spent $2m to bring that first fight to the plaza. He made $8m at the tables, another $2.5m at the gate and he learned a priceless lesson. Because, it’s what happened during the next fight that really catches the eye.
He saw the potential of what hosting these events could do for him. Within 6 months of this fight, there was another. Mike Tyson vs Michael Spinks. This was the fight where if you blinked you missed it. But what else did we miss that we can now see with crystal clear hindsight?
During the entrance of the Heavyweight Champion there was an announcement over the PA. ‘Will Mr. Trump please come to the ring.’ With this small announcement made during Tyson’s entrance, he made everyone hear his name. His narcissism knows no bounds. He diverted focus to him.
But then...once in the ring...OMG. Michael Buffer, the famed ring announcer, made a “special announcement” to the thousands of people in the arena and more importantly to the MILLIONS of people watching at home. A special thank you for...
‘the gentleman responsible for this spectacular event and whose success in business epitomizes the American dream, the author of the year’s best selling book ‘the art of the deal’ his vision and accomplishments make him the quintessential entrepreneur. Mr. Donald J. trump.’
This thank you, this special recognition that was made to a captive world, sounds an awful lot like it was written by long time trump public relations czar John Barron. Did I say czar? Tsarry, that’s a different thread. Come back and read that here👇🏻
Besides this special announcement, trump figured out that he needed to sit in seats that would put him on television. That he could forever be in the frames of boxing history simply by sitting there. He was further focusing the imagery on himself. Putting himself at the fore.
This time, he paid $13m for the fight. This is a 550% increase in the amount from the fight he held just 6 months prior! This time, trump was all about team Tyson. trump was even seated at the panel during the pre-fight press conference.
At that pre-fight presser, trump was asked about a commercial he did for Pepsi. He conflated 2 commercials, said he was in a ‘great’ commercial that might ‘win all the big awards’. He said the $13m was ‘a record’. You can see the PT Barnum in him growing.
You can also see the grifter. Because that Pepsi commercial was one in which trump simply had to say ‘No Comment’ and for that he received $100k. He said it would go to charities like MS and AIDS. I wonder if they ever got those checks?
Well, as history would have it, in 1988 Trump also created the charitable Donald J Trump foundation and such things are knowable. That foundation was later shut down. Dissolved under the oversight of the NY Attorney General’s office. You know, for violating laws.
This article from 2016 says the Pepsi commercial yielded Trump $50k. Which is half of what he said it was. I wonder if looking at his taxes could clear up this discrepancy. It’s not like trump exaggerates.
buzzfeednews.com/article/andrew…
Oh right, he is now under investigation by the NY Attorney General for [REDACTED]. Given what we know from his former attorney’s House testimony it could be to do with exaggerating. More specifically inflating assets. Which is a crime. A way to launder money.
Now, I’m not saying that boxing was an attractive place for criminals to make and launder money. So I’ll let an expert tell you. Actually, he told the Senate...in a hearing...about the mobs influence on boxing.👀👇🏻
Also revealed through the course of that testimony, the mob would put a captain close to handle their boxing investments. Does that mean handling the promoter, the guy who owns the venue, or real estate developer in need of concrete who paid 550% more on this fight than the last?
The witness testifying to the Senate explained there were people who wanted to ‘clean up’ their money through boxing. No bull. Makes you wonder if trump were being handled by people laundering money through boxing Whitey get away with it? Sorry, why did he get away with it?
In 1988, trump began his ascension through the ranks. He’s gone from promoter of boxing matches to promoter of Big Lies. Our democracy is now on the ropes and it’s time Democrats get in the ring.

@maddow @MaddowBlog @ZevShalev @gregolear @LincolnsBible @glennkirschner2 @jzikah
Oh, and if you’re wondering what trump’s most recent contribution to heavyweight boxing was, it was to pardon Jack Johnson for violating The Mann Act. What is that? Open the Gaetz to that here👇🏻END

They tell us there is no bipartisanship. They argue against bills to weaken them, get what they want, and still don’t vote for them. They tell us the president was practically and morally responsible for the Insurrection. They tell us there was no Insurrection.
They tell us to vote for them so they can eliminate voting rights. They tell us they are pro life while executing DNA exonerated Black men. They tell us they are the party of law and order, yet they won’t allow investigations.
They tell us we cannot appoint Supreme Court Justices in an election year, yet they confirmed one after 10 million people voted. They tell us they are against cancel culture, yet excommunicate Liz Cheney for recognizing reality.

Mitch McConnell is opposed to an investigation into Insurrection. This is an act of fealty to a twice impeached president who yelled at him via blog posts. Hair Fewer pulled his leash and now McConnell responds with self preservation. He knows what an investigation will find.🧵👇🏻
An Insurrection is an attack on our country. Just as we were attacked on 9/11, we were attacked on 1/6. Both dates represent traumas brought on by ideological terrorism. Mitch McConnell not wanting an investigation into an Insurrection is a dereliction of duty. Know him.
Mitch McConnell allowed the rise of trump in order to serve his own needs to mold the judiciary in his image. He used trump as much as trump used him. Know him.

The ducks are lining up. Reality is about to emerge from the fog. It is slow, and methodical, but soon we’ll see the picture.
Below is a review of FOIA documents received by @JasonLeopold and others. The docs are here👇🏻

🦆1. Rudy Giuliani is raided by the FBI and most likely, the raid was focused on crimes that may have occurred in relation to activities in Ukraine. Activities that we now know are part of a disinformation campaign to dirty up Biden leading into the election.
🦆2. In these released documents, page 201 of 285, there includes an email that references Rudy Giuliani and policy agenda for Homeland Security. Image

The US Treasury department has announced sanctions against a number of Russians. Some of these names ought to be familiar by now. Read them here. Lots to place in context, and loads to unpack. Let’s dive in. 🧵👇🏻 home.treasury.gov/news/press-rel…
I’ll start with the name that should be most recognizable, Konstantin Kilimnik. You’ll remember him from such attacks on our democracy as taking internal trump campaign information during the 2016 election from trump campaign manager and ostrich jacket connoisseur Paul Manafort.
Another name is Yevgheni Prigozhin aka Putin’s chef. You may remember him from such swept under the rug by Bill Barr items as the Mueller Report. Putin’s chef was cooking up disinformation bots to interfere with the 2016 election. Sow some discord, add a pinch of IRA bots...

It’s incalculable the damage trump and Republicans did to us. The fact that those who were complicit in the attempted overthrow of our government remain on our Intelligence, Judiciary and Homeland Security committees is a national security threat. The damage is ongoing.
This Senate Intel hearing is scary. Republicans all of a sudden found masks. There is discussion from IC about China coming in through the back door. As we have been focused on Russia threats for 2 presidential election cycles with help from elected officials, we’re missing it.
Understand that. Our elected officials in the form of spreading disinformation, taking to propaganda outlets to sow the discord’s sought by Putin, did the work to undermine our democracy. How can we trust them to now do the work to protect us?

Last night there was a court filing related to a bond hearing for one of the top Oathkeepers. They were arguing for his release from jail while pending trial. This is the opposition from prosecutors.🧵👇🏻

Please read this.assets.documentcloud.org/documents/2061…
So much to unpack in here: According to the document (read it, it’s fascinating) this Oathkeeper has been denied medication. (Testosterone), and get this...he ‘cracked off’ a shot at his neighbors dog! Oh and there is a ‘Congress team’. Image
Setting aside the need for testosterone for the treatment of hypertension (seriously, read the link above) this document also reveals the presence of a ‘Congress Team’. Who the hell is that. Are these members of Congress? This document also shows us Person 11.
