This week, we were pleased to offer @Microsoft's perspectives on improving access to #immigration benefits and services, in response to the @USCIS request for public input. In our submission, we focused on the following:
Ensuring #greencardrecapture to eliminate the loss and waste of statutorily-authorized green card numbers that are critically needed for the existing green card backlog. We also included an explanation of how it is within the agency's existing authority to do this now.
Allowing the filing of AOS applications before final action dates are current. This would allow for a far more precise and efficient allocation of green cards to applications (eliminating waste) and also give individuals access to key benefits like portability, EADs and APs.
Reducing lengthy processing times. Too many people are suffering real-world consequences, like loss of employment authorization, simply because of operational processing delays at the agency. #H4EADdelays. We suggested automatic extensions of employment authorization...
...expanded premium processing, and elimination of mandatory interviews where appropriate.
Modernizing the I-9 system to make onboarding new hires more efficient and seamless has long been an interest for many businesses.
And we round it out with suggestions to prevent delays in the USCIS mailroom and stop erroneous rejections; improve the customer service infrastructure of the agency to better serve its stakeholders; and modernize systems through #DigitalTransformation to eliminate inefficiency.
We're grateful @USCIS is open to receiving these types of suggestions. Others have also offered great ideas that will benefit everyone. If you'd like to see our full submission, you can view it here: regulations.gov/comment/USCIS-….
These aren't the only ideas for improving the immigration system for employment-based immigrants, just some of the ones that @USCIS can pursue under its own authority, without any need for changes in the law. Legislative reform, especially on green cards, is still needed.
