Over the last year we’ve been voicing our charities’ stance on clinical research issues and helping to shape initiatives that influence the #clinicalresearch ecosystem.
🧵👇
When the pandemic hit, AMRC charities were forced to stop, pause, or delay 73% of the clinical trials and studies they fund to support the secondment of clinical research staff to the NHS frontline & the delivery of COVID-19 research.
Apr 2020: We worked with @NIHRresearch to develop a framework (bit.ly/2SPVwBd) to restart research. We also engaged with the Life Science Council’s Clinical Research Working Group & contributed to their report on transforming the UK clinical research environment.
Jun 2020: We co-chaired the NIHR Restart Advisory Group with @ABPI_UK. To inform our work with this group we set up a Clinical Research Advisory Group of members. We also participated in a ministerial roundtable on patient recruitment to trials hosted by Lord @JimBethell
July 2020: We participated in the Clinical Research Coalition chaired by @nicolablackwood and contributed to their White paper on the future of clinical research. We also provided feedback on NIHR Public Voices vision for the future of UK clinical trials.
December 2020: As part of our work with the NIHR Restart Advisory Group, we published a report (bit.ly/2QdrbeO) exploring the impact of patient hesitancy on trial recruitment during the pandemic
Jan 2021: We co-chaired the NIHR’s Recovery, Resilience & Growth Programme Advisory Group and helped develop the Government’s vision (bit.ly/3uN33Pf) for the future of UK clinical research delivery.
Feb 2021: We hosted a roundtable with @LillyPad on the challenges and opportunities within clinical research in the UK. The percent of clinical trials and studies funded by AMRC charities that were still stopped, paused or delayed had dropped to 25% (379 of 1,201).
