Cutting the Slack

I am someone who always sets aside work for Sundays. My wife is always miffed about it.

But it is because I set aside work for Sundays that I manage to keep rest of my week more free and less tense.

Time, especially family time, is a precious resource. 1/6
"There’s a good chance most of the problems in your life and work come down to insufficient slack." - fs.blog/2021/05/slack/

When I was an entrepreneur, I scheduled certain important but non urgent tasks for Sunday, so that I had some slack during the working week. 2/6
This gives flexibility in schedules. So when the inevitable urgent activity barges into your itinerary, you have some room in your calendar to wiggle out a solution. 3/6
It doesn't mean you will never run out of time, though. I've had to pull in both the shifts while setting up SAP reporting once at work long time ago.

But if the activities stay away, you have time in hand to spend on pet projects, family or anything in your liking. 4/6
To manage time, you need to have time to manage. Slack gives you that time. And not just for work, but also for life.

Sundays, vacation days, holidays may help you get the slack you need for life.

So, make use of the slack. 5/6

An Emperor thrown out of his capital.

The last gasp of a nation for self rule, before foreign rule for centuries.

Mátyás Hunyadi was born in 1443 to János Hunyadi and Erszebet Szilágyi de Horogszeg. In 1441, János Hunyadi became Voivode of Transylvania in Hungary, alongside Újlaki Miklós, playing an active role in its defence against Ottomans. He was Regent for King Ladislaus from 1446. 1/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
In 1456, János Hunyadi came to the rescue of Belgrade under siege by Ottoman forces. But he died later of plague. Rivalry of his elder son, László, with Count of Cilli, cascaded into the arrests of both László and Mátyás by the King. László was executed in 1457. 2/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Giovanni de' Medici was born in 1475 to Lorenzo de' Medici and Clarice Orsini. Lorenzo was the de facto ruler of the Republic of Florence and ran the Medici Bank. As a younger son, Giovanni was destined for Church, with Pope Innocent VIII naming him a Cardinal in 1489. 1/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Leo_X#/media/File:Raffael
Because of his age, his official appointment would take till 1492. But his move to Rome had to be curtailed after his father's death the same year. Giovanni's elder brother, Piero, succeeded, but in 1494 the Florentines rebelled and expelled the Medici. 2/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorenzo_de%27_Medici#/media/Fi

Mind the Gap

When I look at my nearly 7 year old daughter’s upcoming academic year, I have to say I feel for more senior parents and later adolescents worried about a below par academic year.

But it shouldn’t be so. 1/7
Many view a gap in your academic life or in career negatively. But in a year which has forced career breaks due to pandemic induced lockdowns, it has become a common occurrence. Hopefully, this will finally normalize such breaks. ( hbr.org/2021/04/compan… ) 2/7
I had taken two years off during my academic life and both years have been important in shaping my future. I had a year off after school in which I took up a computer course at NIIT that helped me land my first job after graduation. 3/7
