🧵 Thread to collate some of the sources for vaccines purchases by India so far and the payments towards it. Vaccine doses in Millions, Amount in Millions and Currency INR. Let's start with the data released yesterday by MoHFW. 1/10
Second was a Letter of Comfort late Jan for Covaxin for 4.5 million doses, though 0.8 million of them was marked for Vaccine Maitri (I am taking the same rate for Covaxin as before). 3/10
Along with the Jan order, it was stated another 45 million doses of Covishield would be purchased by 31st March at the rate of Rs. 210 + GST. I cannot find a specific instance of the order, but it should have gone out before 31st March. 6/10
The update from centre early May to clarify confusion over lack of vaccine orders. Tax Deducted at Source appears to be rather high. I am taking the amount as in lakhs instead of crores. 7/10
And to round up, the reply given for an RTI on vaccine payments. The amount from PM CARES and given out by centre is mentioned in the news article ( H/t @oommen ). The calculated amount from my table is a bit lesser, hence excess shown. 8/10
India has given out vaccines to other nations via grants, commercial contracts & for Covax. It is not clear whether this has come centre's purchase. The link has relevant details. I have taken grant details & commercial export of Covaxin from that. 9/10
Finally, the investment by ICMR in funding clinical trials. I am not sure whether this has any bearing to the excess amount found in my sum-up table (Again hat tip to @oommen for the link - Pages 57 & 58). 10/10
Alfonso de Castilla was born in 1155 to Prince Sancho de Castilla and Princess Blanca de Navarra. His paternal grandfather, Alfonso, was the King of León, Galicia, Castile and Toledo, while his maternal grandfather, Garcia, was the King of Navarre. 1/10
When King Alfonso died in 1157, the elder Sancho received Castile & Toledo, while his younger brother, Fernando, received León & Galicia. Despite the dynastic connections of the Christian nations in the north of the Iberian peninsula, it was still dominated by the Almohads. 2/10
Guillaume was born around 755 to Theoderic, Count of Autun, and Aldana, likely a sister of Pepin, King of the Franks. When Pepin died in 768, his sons Karol and Karlomann, became joint Kings of the Franks. Theoderic retained a faithful role in the court. 1/10
In 781, Karol appointed his 3 year old son, Hludowic, as the King of Aquitaine. Karol was vary of his southern neighbours in Hispania, especially after his defeat in 778 at Roncevaux Pass. It is likely Guillaume was brought in as a tutor for young Hludowic. 2/10
Ariadne was born before 457 to Leon and Verina. Leon served in the Roman army of Theodosius, the Emperor in the East, but the power behind the throne were the Emperor's elder sister, Pulcheria, and Flavius Ardaburius Aspar, a general of Germanic descent, from Alani tribe. 1/10
When Theodosius died in 450, Pulcheria and Aspar appointed Marcianus, whom Pulcheria later married, as the Emperor. Pulcheria died in 453, followed by Marcianus in 457. Aspar controlled the Eastern Empire, but could not rule himself. So, he appointed Leon, to be a puppet. 2/10
Amalasuintha was born around 493 to Theodoric, King of the Ostrogoths, and Audofledis of the Franks. Her uncle Chlodovech was the King of the Franks and her illegitimate half sister Theodegothia was married to King Alaric of the Visigoths. 1/10
After the collapse of the Roman Empire in the West, it was quickly eaten up by the many Germanic tribes that supplied soldiers for the Empire. The Franks ruled over Gaul, the Visigoths in Hispania, while Theodoric conquered the Italian peninsula in 493. 2/10
Studies show people prefer to add, even when subtracting may give a better solution. This is because adding is our default behaviour and we need incentives to subtract.
The year was 2004. I was working as a programmer in Hyderabad. Fresh out of college, it was an amazing experience and an excellent way to learn while I reappeared for my MBA entrance. 2/7
I worked on a product for the stock markets. It was a stable product and I had to review the code for bugs and correct it. I had to learn a new programming language and update myself on the stock market.
Henri de Hainaut was born around 1176 to Count Baudouin of Hainaut and Marguerite de Flandre (later Countess of Flanders). Not much is known of his early life till 1201, when he set out for the Levant with his brother Baudouin to conquer Jerusalem. 1/10
Things got ugly when they reached Venice. It was expected Venice would provide them transport by sea, but the Crusaders didn't have the money for it. Instead, Venice wanted them siege Zadar, a port on the Adriatic, part of the Christian Kingdom of Croatia. 2/10
