House Democrats have posted a far more detailed Google map of the proposed district boundaries. Take a look here #twillgoogle.com/maps/d/u/1/vie…
After a decade with three senators repping Springfield, the capital city will largely be within one Senate district (shades of green). Rep. Sue Scherer’s House district (light green), which currently ends at Walnut Street, stretches out to Veterans Parkway on the west side.
The proposed 95th House district (dark green), includes much of Springfield’s south and west sides. It then swings up to the city’s north end, where it picks up GOP Rep. Tim Butler’s home.
This map would presumably help Scherer shore up her standing (she only won by 7 points in 2020) and give appointed Sen. Doris Turner a fighting chance to retain her seat. Springfield’s west side has gotten a lot more Democratic in the past decade, so we’ll see.
It appears Reps. Avery Bourne and Mike Murphy have been drawn into the same district (blue).
Here’s Decatur. Proposed map vs. current map.
Rep. Dan Caulkins’ district currently wraps around to the south side of the city, where he lives. Not anymore. He’s been drawn out.
As was the case last time, Sue Scherer retains the city’s urban core.
Caulkins has apparently been drawn in with three of his Eastern Bloc colleagues...
After a year where many couples saw their celebrations fizzle, there's a new problem: a logjam of marriages put on hold, ready for weddings. @kwatznauer with the report: pantagraph.com/lifestyles/peo…
As expected, @VoteforDoris’ 48th Senate district picks up much of Springfield’s west side and drops GOP-trending Macoupin and Montgomery counties. Still probably a toss-up seat, but gives her a much better chance to win a full term. #twill
As for the House side, Rep. Sue Scherer’s Springfield-Decatur seat remains intact. But Rep. @AveryBourne’s is significantly altered and now appears to include @RepTimButler’s northend home.
It appears Macon County would pick up a fourth senator picking up southern portions of the county and a fourth House member would pick up portions of the western part of the county.
There’s got to be at least 1,000 people protesting outside the Illinois Capitol today. Vast majority not wearing masks. No social distancing whatsoever. #twill
I’ve been out to a couple of these rallies in the past few weeks and this is easily the most well-attended. Lots of Trump flags, shirts and hats among the protesters. A few QAnon sightings as well. #twill
