The “common cold” is hundreds of different rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, coronaviruses and influenza viruses (and some others) that present the same symptoms.
Humans are tough but we’re also prone to a multitude of infectious diseases. We can survive most of these things and they proliferate precisely because they don’t do much harm. Viruses need living hosts to spread. Viruses that kill tend not to spread very easily or for very long.
What makes COVID19 so scary (to epidemiologists) is that it spreads more easily than the flu, it’s hard to detect because symptoms don’t present immediately, and it’s a magnitude more lethal than your regular infection to vulnerable (obese, elderly, pre-existing issues) people.
You know how you win on a battlefield? Turn your enemies into gimps so the able bodied among them have to look after them. Attrition hurts far worse than outright slaughter (and is easier to accomplish) because it provokes a much more sluggish response. All you need is patience.
Worth noting that you’re not gonna have a snowflake’s chance in hell to fight anything with bioengineered sophistication with a shitty cocktail of cheap drugs.

I like this tweet because it makes a harmful, incorrect stereotype about gamers who then respond with outrage about it while game journalists laugh and retweet the lie to perpetuate their narrative about toxic masculinity. Just angry people all around.

Ryanair is so stupid. They listened to a fake tip from Belarus about a bomb threat and landed a plane bound for Lithuania in Belarus that was carrying a journalist wanted by the authoritarian government for his opposition efforts.
If I was at RFERL or the US State Dept. I’d be fucking furious right now.
If this is true (no way to verify that it is) then NATO needs to take action. You can’t just threaten to shoot down an internal European flight from Greece to Lithuania.

Also just speaking in general, the top 5 female tennis and golf players can’t even match up against the top 1000 male players in either of those sports.
Women have to use women’s golf clubs because most of them are too short to handle the men’s clubs. Arms just aren’t long enough and the men’s clubs are too heavy for women to get a proper swing.

Law Abiding Citizen. Decent movie with a crackhead’s execution of an ending.
He should’ve successfully killed the whole corrupt system and outsmarted the lawyer by not only predicting but planning the “discovery” of his escape hatch/lair. The ending makes absolutely no sense given that this guy’s Von Clausewitz and playing chess 20 moves ahead.
It’s like Death Note, right? The protagonist/anti-hero is always 20 moves ahead. You can’t have him go full Flowers for Algernon at the end. Feels like a bad script rewrite to appease focus groups.

The founder of Stop AAPI Hate says that Asians are “White adjacent," guilty of anti-Blackness.
She says Asians should stop focusing on a “minority” of violent incidents that see Asians attacked, and should shift focus to Whites in positions of power.
Stop AAPI Hate is a movement much like Black Lives Matter that's designed to divide the Asian community and turn Asian-Americans against Whites.
This is all based on Critical Race Theory.

Blacks who brutalize Asians in the street are less of a "threat" to Asian-Americans compared to White employers who hold everyone to the same standard as White people and treat people the same instead of infantilizing minorities.

Increasing the minimum wage increases the demand for automation and skilled workers who know how to use those machines. It isn't going to help low-wage, low-skilled workers.

It also bankrupts small companies and gives giants like Amazon, who can afford it, the upper hand.
Raising the minimum wage will make poor people even poorer, forcing them to resort to criminality while raising their dependence on welfare.
It's a good economy if you're already made. It's a bad one if you're still aspiring to work your way out of your debts.
