BREAKING: A private plane crashed in waters off La Union on Wednesday, the Philippine Coast Guard confirms. The PCG reports that the student pilot manning the aircraft was declared dead by the Caba Municipal Health Office. cnn.ph Image
In a separate advisory, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, citing initial reports, says the student pilot was 'conducting a solo cross-country flight.'

Investigators are looking into the possible cause of the accident, CAAP adds.
CAAP also confirms that the student pilot carrying the aircraft had died. It adds the body of the pilot 'was retrieved by the townspeople of La Union at the crash site.'
