Hi, we’re @_projectlotus! We’re excited to share our mission and the work that we’re doing to educate and empower Asian American communities, destigmatize mental health, and tackle the model minority myth. Check out theprojectlotus.org to see our work!
While all communities care for mental health and face mental health problems, Asian Americans often deal with community-specific problems that exacerbate the issue, causing Asian Americans to be 3x less likely than white people to seek help.
One of the biggest problems is mental health stigma, which is caused by the model minority myth, race-related stressors, cultural barriers, and much more.

Here’s an educational video about the model minority myth:
With over 25% of all Asian Americans experiencing mental distress within their lifetime, we seek to tackle mental health stigma within our communities and make sure all individuals are properly supported.
In addition, the recent spike in hate crimes against the AAPI community has highlighted the importance of supporting wellbeing and mental health in our community.

Learn more about why we fight:
We destigmatize mental health in Asian American communities by empowering community voices through our blog, which anyone can submit to. Sharing stories is essential to reducing the shame surrounding mental health.

We provide culturally relevant education to the AAPI community through informational webinars featuring mental health professionals who speak about topics such as the impact of cultural loss on mental health. Learn more:

Here’s our most recent webinar, which taught parents how to spot signs of stress and anxiety in their children, as well as strategies to support them.
We also focus on dismantling the shame surrounding mental health by discussing topics of mental health that our community doesn’t typically talk about. Tune in to our podcast, where we feature guests ranging from clinical psychologists to youth activists:

Our work doesn’t stop there. We compile and create culturally catered mental health resources for the AAPI community. Visit theprojectlotus.org/resources for more expert resources designed to help parents and their children tackle mental health stigma.
“AAPI heritage month gives me the chance to acknowledge, celebrate, and honor my community’s shared experiences and history,” said our Executive Director, Daniel Gu.
“It’s empowering – getting the chance to reflect on people in my life who have contributed to the community and to celebrate my cultural heritage in a dedicated space.”
For AAPI Heritage and Mental Health Awareness Month, we’ve launched a conference to support and raise awareness for five different organizations: @_projectlotus, @AAFederation, @SakhiNYC, Cut Fruit Collective, and @AsianCDC. Image
This conference will comprise four weekly Instagram Lives. Hosted every Saturday, we invite special guests, like influencer Kim Saira, to speak with us about their heritage and mental health journey.
None of our work would be possible without our amazing team who dedicate countless hours to support Asian American mental health. Want to volunteer? Fill out this application:
