Let me explain why some get the psychology of COVID wrong. The majority of Victorians get protective about their state. Right now, the people that are helping them get through this are medical professionals and government. 1/
A large number are genuinely scared about the virus. It poses a mortal danger to them and their family. Others are scared about the virus because it poses a massive potential disruption to their work and career. 2/
They view those fighting this outbreak as part of their ‘in group’, ‘their tribe’. Anyone attacking these people right now is simply getting in the way of beating this virus. It’s akin to attacking fire fighters in the middle of a bushfire. To many - this is a viral bushfire 3/
Some in the media and in political circles that point to NSW or other states don’t help their own cause. They are simply telegraphing that they are not part of this ‘in group’ not part of the team committed to beating off this latest outbreak. 4/
Last year, many in Victoria felt abandoned by the country. Politicians that rejoiced the freedoms of other states did more harm to themselves than they fully appreciate. This phenomenon is purely COVID related. It does not matter who is in government. 5/
Take a look at all incumbent governments right now. All are winning elections, across the world. There is only one exception. Trump. Who openly urged the spread of the disease.
Victorians do not want anyone getting in the way right now. It’s team Victoria. 6/
This is not question time. It’s not about one political party failing to build a road. It’s a global pandemic and people outside the political bubble know it.
