What does the Star of David, also known as Magen David symbolize and does it have mystical power? (THREAD) ImageImageImage
The shape of the Star of David is hexagram, a 6 pointed geometric stat, common mainly in Jewish and Buddhist culture.
The Star of David is a familiar symbol in Far East cultures, and can be found in ancient temples across India.
According to Hinduism, this symbolizes the goddess Lakshmi. In Buddhism it‘s believed that this symbol has a mystical power of peace and harmony and is even occasionally used in meditation.
The symbol was common in the past and is known to many different cultures, and especially for the Jews.
In Hebrew, Star of David is called “Magen David”, as the shape engraved on the shields of King David's.
According to Judaism, it symbolizes a holy trinity of divinity:
- God
- Torah
- Jewish nation
In addition, the shape was used in the seals of Solomon who were known for their great power.
At certain times the Jews would use the Star of David in a magical way, they would cast out spirits or bad luck and summon good luck, happiness and success.
In addition, the Jewish tradition states that God created the world with seven spiritual building blocks. Accordingly, the Star of David is a reflection of seven foundational attributes in which the world couldn’t exist without.
They are:

Chessed which means kindness.
Gevurah which means heroism.
Tiferet which means harmony.
Netzah which means eternity.
Hod which means splendor.
Yesod which means foundation.
Malchut which means loyalty.
Despite the Jewish interpretation of this symbol, and although it can be found etched in ancient sites, Star of David became a distinctly Jewish symbol only in the 14th century, when the Jews used this as stamps, as engravings on their houses and tombs.
Many rabbis claimed in the past that it shouldn’t be used in any rituals because it’s forbidden in the Torah, and because of the hidden power of the symbol.
Therefore it’s forbidden to write names/wishes/blessings on it if you don’t truly understand how Jewish mysticism works. ImageImageImage
Just like the hamsa and evil eye symbols, the Star of David symbolizes peace, tranquility and good luck. Jews customarily engrave this symbol on the mezuzahs of their homes along with other Jewish symbols such as the menorah and the priestly breastplate.
