We need a different approach to talk about the ongoing racist violence, whether against people of Jewish descent, African descent, or Asian descent. That’s why I’ve been focused on individual acts of racist violence as acts of male privilege in addition to a hate crime. 1/x
If men commit most violent crimes, this applies across the board, not just when the victims of the violent crimes are women. Male privilege includes the privilege to violently enforce other systems of oppression besides patriarchy. 2/x
Men’s violence against women and trans people is what is thought of when most people talk about male privilege and men’s violence. Recent incidents where MOC have attacked Jews, Asian-Americans, and other minorities have led me to see the enforcement of racial and xenophobic 3/x
violence as an extension of male privilege, not white privilege. The reason violent racist acts have been thought of as white privilege is the historical dominance of white people in America. Now that whites make up 60% of the population, a large minority of racial violence 4/x
comes from MOC in different marginalized groups. Therefore, racial violence in 2021 America has to be seen as a form of MALE, not white privilege, because men are committing these acts, women aren’t. Racial violence as a form of male privilege also explains the majority of 5/x
violence and norms as a man, not (just) a white issue. Particularly when stats show most Asian Americans targeted are women, and other types of targeted attacks (pulling off hijabs) are against women. Seeing racist violence as a men’s issue in addition to a white issue allows 4/x
femme voices to come to the forefront and also allows connections between gender roles and racism to be explored even when attacks target MOC. It also allows women from groups NOT being currently targeted to tell men that we need to shape up regarding racism as well as sexism 5/x

To combat ANY violence, not just male VAWG, masculinity must be reconstructed. The WHO defines gender as “the characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed.” For us, dominance and being the protector are two of those socially constructed traits. 1/x
While this is most salient when dealing with men’s violence against women and trans people, it’s as salient when dealing with male violence against racially and religious marginalized groups, including other men within those groups. Protection can easily include protection 2/x
From “savages and brutes” which are ways Native American and BM have been portrayed in America. Protection and dominance is the justification for bloated police budgets & police brutality. It is also justification for vigilantes & overseas wars. Since dominance and protection 3/x
