The current rate and depth of renovation is far below what we need to reach the 2030 #ClimateTargets in #Fitfor55, and too many Europeans are living in inefficient homes and suffering #energypoverty 2/9
MEPS are a flexible policy tool that can be adopted to national priorities, building stock and circumstances. #MemberStates 6/9
Announced early and introduced into a strengthened framework of financial and practical support and social safeguards, MEPS can help shift the market over time and improve the efficiency of the renovation framework. 7/9 #EUGreenDeal
MEPS need to be implemented NOW, setting out the lead times for regulation. Lead times before compliance must be used to build up renovation support, including EU funding, and social safeguards. This would make Europe a world leader in #BuildingRenovation. 8/9
The EU MEPS framework should cover all buildings, require compliance at firm dates starting before 2030 and utilise and improve the existing #EnergyPerformanceCertificates framework. #EPCs 9/9
Excellent, timely blog @annakompatscher@feantsa on how to design #MEPS to deliver max social benefits.
- prioritise homes, and introduce with:
- low-income renovation progs
- EU “energy poverty” fund
- protection for housing affordability & security bit.ly/3pdsh7r
I found this @FEANTSA report a great source of inspiration on finance and delivery solutions for a range of housing situations. bit.ly/34CnJOD
