I have spent 12 years of my life working to acquire degrees & treating. I am doing an Mch in pediatric Surgery. It's 45 degrees out here in Jaipur. On an average I work 12 to 16 hrs a day. There are bed bugs on the duty room and AC doesn't work. I wonder was it all worth ?
It all seemed worth it till I saw the docs being beaten. I still love my job. Pediatric Surgery is extremely satisfying. But the threat of violence in public hospitals is real and the fear we face each time a child becomes sick is real. I intended to highlight that.
I don't intend to quit or leave the profession. But the fact is we will stop attracting the best until we can ensure better working conditions and safety for doctors
I know it was a rant. The next time a kid smiles at me as he is discharged or a neonates is able to suckle after a complex Tracheoesophageal fistula surgery, I am going to think that it was all worth it. But the fact that we love our jobs doesn't make it safer. #Doctorassault
I have to clarify again. I am not against the profession or questioning it. It was purely about the safety issues doctors face at their workplace
