Mechanical studies are very low in the pyramid of evidence.

Thanks to federalism in the USA we now have a strong paper that included periods when masks "work" (spring-summer) and stop "working" (autumn-winter).
Same as we knew in pre-2020 science, no difference between states with and without mask mandates.

I have my strongly held opinion as to why we are made to wear masks, I wrote a thread about it when kids were made to do it.
It's not a zero-sum game. Masks need to go. Forever.
