Almost exactly 1 year ago, the govt stopped doing daily briefings. It left an information vacuum. So Independent SAGE began regular Friday briefing with weekly analysis of all data. Yesterday’s has already been watched by 10k people. (This is relevant)

Week after week @chrischirp (& later @Kit_Yates_Maths) has presented an analysis of all available data. Yesterday’s was perhaps clearest yet. But it was also very stark. What has happened with the new variant is yet another national disaster. These numbers are bad.

The whole presentation by @chrischirp is about 20 mins but it just lays it all out. How the variant is growing exponentially. How much more infectious it is, how so many people have not yet even had single vaccine. Evidence-based reason after reason to be very very concerned.

The government isn’t listening. It didn’t listen on border control. It still isn’t listening on Find, Test, Trace, Isolate, Support. And it is not acting now on the variant. At every step of this pandemic, it’s the the public that has got it first.
