It’s clear Plan A was Bam waiting for ext. so Heat would have been working w/ $34-37M in cap space this summer versus $24M or so….

By structuring the Dragic, Iguodala (& Meyers/AB if we’re counting) with team options for this summer, the team can now use Iggy/Dragic as effectively a portion of the cap space they lost by Bam getting his extension increase early.
This has the potential to DRAMATICALLY increase Miami’s spending power & flexibility…provided a few things fall their way which is always necessary….
It will be imperative Heat do not get emotional this summer.
They have tools to execute trades despite lack of picks. Although don’t forget they gain a FRP to trade on 8/1
If they decline Goran/Iggy TO they still have options, but not as many that aren’t even more complicated

For me it boils down to this, Riley is attaching his final run to Jimmy and Bam.
When you think about the length of Jimmy’s next extension, I would caution not to discount Bam’s trajectory in terms of what is best for “Jimmy’s window”.

Also, another thing needs to be made abundantly clear among #NBATwitter & #HeatTwitter …this whole “team building thing” as it relates to STARS has less & less to do w/ front offices. Players run this.
So ultimately this is about the effectiveness of our player recruitment.

Riley & Andy have always said that “we just need the guy to say he wants to be here” and we’ll figure out the rest.
My biggest takeaway heading into this offseason: if a player wants to REALLY come play w Jimmy or/& Bam & makes it known, Heat can make it happen transaction wise

Otherwise, if let’s say a Kawhi or Dame pipe dream isn’t viable….I think they have avenues to do more than just add one key free agent & complimentary pieces.
I hope they realize that deferring beyond this offseason is going to get more & more difficult to navigate big changes

Show us you’ll be smart about addressing overall talent upgrades, show us you’ll be aggressive and PLEASE pay the damn luxury tax during these Jimmy extension years (effectively during Riley’s last build)
