Turkey's President Erdogan has promised to save the country's seas from "sea snot," a slimy sludge that could endanger marine life and the fishing industry.

Take a look at Turkey's Sea of Marmara amid the largest outbreak of "sea snot" on record.

businessinsider.com/turkey-sea-sno…
"Sea snot," or marine mucilage, forms when algae are overloaded with nutrients due to climate change and water pollution.

It was first discovered in Turkey in 2007, and also in the Aegean Sea near Greece.

The Sea of Marmara is an inland sea separating the Asiatic and European parts of Turkey.

It is connected to the Black Sea through the Bosphorus, a waterway also known as the Strait of Istanbul.

Fishermen traveling through the sea are prevented from working as the "sea snot" is clogging up their motors and nets.

Divers have reported a large number of fish and other species dying due to suffocation.

The Turkish government has dispatched a team to inspect the potential sources of pollution in the sea.

Erdogan blamed untreated sewage being dumped in the sea and rising temperatures.

California's Lake Oroville helps water a quarter of the nation's crops and anchors the local tourism economy.

But the lake is shrinking fast amid a severe drought and is predicted to reach a record low this summer.

insider.com/photos-drought…
Droughts are common in California.

But this year's is much hotter and drier than others, evaporating water more quickly from the reservoirs and the sparse Sierra Nevada snowpack that feeds them.

Over Memorial Day weekend, dozens of houseboats sat on cinder blocks at Lake Oroville because there wasn't enough water to hold them.

In nearby Folsom Lake, boat docks rested on dry land. Campers occupied dusty riverbanks farther north at Shasta Lake.

Last April, @yaledailynews reported that Yale Law professor, Amy Chua, would be stripped of teaching a class after allegations she had hosted parties and drank with students.

Chua told Insider there’s been tension since she supported Brett Kavanaugh.👇

businessinsider.com/amy-chua-tiger…
The gatherings took place during the pandemic when Yale had rules about social events. In addition, Chua’s husband, fellow Yale Law professor, Jed Rubenfeld, was in the midst of a two-year suspension after female students accused him of sexual harassment.

businessinsider.com/amy-chua-tiger…
Chua and her husband made a name for themselves at Yale by mentoring students who came from unorthodox backgrounds — first generation college students, minorities, graduates of state schools — in the often cloaked process of obtaining a coveted clerkship.

Perhaps no other politician in recent history has so quickly elevated herself as such a provocateur as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@mtgreenee).

Insider spent two wild weeks inside Greene's Georgia district as it flips a giant middle finger at DC.

businessinsider.com/mtg-marjorie-t…
Recently, Greene compared mask mandates in the House to the Holocaust. The statement drew condemnation from her own party.

Far from Capitol Hill, Greene portrayed herself as a victim who endures — rather than instigates — a pugilistic political culture.

businessinsider.com/mtg-marjorie-t…
In Feb, the House stripped Greene of her committee assignments over comments deemed racist and antisemitic.

But in her district, Greene enjoys support from those who like that she tells it like it is — but are less clear about what "it" is.

At 97, Lily Ebert (tiktok.com/@lilyebert) is one of the oldest Jewish creators on TikTok. She is also a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp.

Neither was enough to restrain the online mob looking for Jews to abuse since Israel's bombings of Gaza.

insider.com/antisemitism-j…
After posting an innocuous video wishing her followers a restful Shabbat (Sabbath) from her London home, she was flooded with "messages of hate."

"Happy Holocaust" and "Peace be upon Hitler" were some of the comments Ebert received.

The targeting of the Auschwitz survivor is not a one-off.

The Anti-Defamation League (@ADF) said that between May 7 and May 14, more than 17,000 tweets could be found that used variations of the phrase, "Hitler was right."
