White House daily press briefing gets underway soon. Link courtesy of CSPAN: c-span.org/video/?512368-…
Jake Sullivan, WH nat sec adviser, at today's White House press briefing says Biden will go on his first trip abroad from a position of strength; showing progress against the pandemic, strong projected economic growth and a "rock solid" foundation of alliances.
At NATO Summit next week, it will be about confronting Russia and coordinating the remaining US drawdown of forces from Afghanistan. Emerging threats, like cybersecurity and challenges posed from China will also be a focus during NATO (starts June 14)
At EU-US Summit in Brussels it's going to be about trade, tech. Biden will also have bilats with UK PM Boris Johnson during this time.

Later on June 16, Biden will meet with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Geneva.
Sullivan fields a q. from the press, is this the right time to meet with Putin, esp. since there are "no deliverables." Sullivan said this summit isn't about delivering anything, or rewarding anything, its about hearing what intent and capabilities are from both sides.
It is hard to find better context for a time for Biden and Putin to meet. Remember its coming after G7, after a meeting with fellow leaders at NATO, EU-US. Then and only then, from White House perspective, is the right context in which to engage Russia, after all leaders engaged
Biden had a call with Ukraine's President Volodomyr Zelensky, Sullivan says. Biden invited Zelensky to the White House soon and expressed his desire to see Ukraine remain independent Russian aggression/encroachment
The threat of ransomware will be a priority focus for the U.S. as it visits with world leaders this week and next, Sullivan says.
The meeting with Putin is about reducing global tensions, "being able to look Putin in the eye" and say, this is what the US expects, stands for and is all about - this is an essential aspect of Russia-US diplomacy, Sullivan adds.
No word yet on whether Biden-Putin will hold a joint press conference.
Things have gone well UK PM Johnson and Biden, Sullivan says. They've been collaborating on "virtually every aspect of the G7 agenda." Separately, there will be a bilat w/Biden and Turkey's President Erdogan on the sidelines during NATO summit in Brussels.

NEW: The newly released bipartisan report on the 1/6 insurrection from the Senate is out and it found sweeping failures, multiple errors made by govt officials & law enforcement in the run up to the siege. Lack of prep and training for cops underlined throughout.
@CourthouseNews
US Cap Police respond to the report:
"Neither the USCP, nor the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Metropolitan Police or our other law enforcement partners knew thousands of rioters were planning to attack the U.S. Capitol. The known intelligence simply didn’t support that conclusion."
USCP maintains it didn't have credible intel indicating people would attack the U.S. Capitol on 1/6.
In May USCP's inspector general said cops had inadequate intelligence, outdated ops too.
But, again, this was what was circulating in the run-up: courthousenews.com/u-s-capitol-po…

Coming up: President Biden goes on his first international trip since taking office. He's headed to the U.K. on Wednesday. First for a meeting with UK PM Boris Johnson & then onward to the G7 Summit. A meeting w/ Queen Elizabeth II is on deck too. More later for @CourthouseNews.
The goal for Biden during the G7 Summit this week and ahead of the NATO Summit next week is to restore diplomatic trust & friendships with U.S. allies after 4 yrs of isolationist policy/rhetoric from Trump.
But it's not all glad-handing.
The world is still experiencing a pandemic. The U.S. has pulled its forces out of Afghanistan. There are concerns over China and how the U.S. can compete against the world power. Then there's Russia. Biden's 1st meeting with Putin is next week and the world will be watching.

After a year of pandemic, losing my mom to a vicious disease that ate her alive in front of me for 2 years and other soul crushing fare, I'm finally putting on my nicest duds, getting very beautiful & going out so I can sip some of the finest whisky at @JackRoseinDC tonight.
I'm really looking forward to it and with her birthday right around the corner, I'll be having some Pappy for her, for sure. She didn't drink, but she always knew how to have a good time and to the nines.
Well. Image

President Biden will deliver remarks on the latest job report today around 10:15 AM ET. More later for @CourthouseNews.
We're getting the May jobs report back today. Estimates peg it at some 670K jobs added last month. Recall in April, that figure was closer to 266K, causing much consternation among those who expected it to do far better. Economists predicting the unemployment rate will dip, too.
Biden will deliver his remarks on the jobs report later his morning from Delaware before returning to Washington.

Seeking an "energy system for and by the people," Reps. @JamaalBowmanNY and @CoriBush have introduced the "Public Power Resolution," legislation that would help establish basic utility services for all while driving down fossil fuel consumption.
@CourthouseNews
The 12-page legislation is available here: bowman.house.gov/_cache/files/e…
Here's some of what it would do: vest a "just" energy transition for public/co-op providers so they can change out existing infrastructure w/renewable energy; establish federal guidelines to keep utilities accountable, impose a universal ban on util. disconnections for nonpayment

In my lifetime, I just want a president who shreds.
I am learning how to longboard and it is hard and I am scared of breaking everything.
