💯 It has been my dream to work in Washington, in the federal government. I believe I can make a difference. But, as recently as this week, a mentor said I am too vocal. That I need to tone it down. And I tried to censor myself — but that has lasted only for 24 hours.
1/
This window of time feels like death. And if landing and retaining a job requires taking my gloves off when I see injustice in the world, to paraphrase Mark Twain, the job can go to hell then.
2/
To say that I am deeply disappointed in Merrick Garland deciding to take Donald Trump‘s case against E. Jean Carroll is an understatement. It was not legally necessary or ethically correct. Moreover it reflects this country’s long history of racism and misogyny.
3/
In America we have a legacy of lynching black children and black men if they even glance at a white woman. And in America we also have a history of giving wealthy well-connected usually white men a pass when it comes to sexual assault and rape.
4/
But if you are a powerful white man, you can be a Supreme Court justice after screaming and yelling and lying at your confirmation hearing about sexually assaulting someone when you were a teenager. And the woman who finally spoke out will be shunned and shamed.
5/
And, if you have a long history of credible allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape, you can be president. And you can even lie about it as president and defame the accuser and the DOJ will take your side and say that if the president lies it’s legal.
6/
Even when the lie is about a decades old rape allegation. If the president lies about that the government will defend him.
I believe Merrick Garland is wrong on the law. But he is also shown his hand. I fear that I was wrong about him.
7/
I believe that this brief in the E. Jean Carroll case has shown his hand. I think he agrees with Bill bar and that when push comes to show of, he believes that President is immune from prosecution for obstruction of justice. I truly hope I am wrong.
8/
That should say Barr and push comes to shove
Stay tune. I’m going to write a longer piece about this for an actual publication not just Twitter.
Phew. Maybe I’ve given up my possible career in Washington forever, but at least I have my voice back.

🧵Here we go! It's 2:02 p.m. Looks like Senator Sheehan is presiding. She thanked the AG for recovering the ransomware payments
It's a $36 billion budget request. Double resources on office of violence against women as a positive highlight.
But, she has "some concerns."
1/
Sheehan is the chair of the subcommittee. That is why she is presiding. She said there are modest increases to law enforcement, with one exception, the bureau of prisons. She's concerned as says BOP needs funds to help inmates with training and medical care, aging buildings.

Thanked 115,000 employees of the DOJ for their work through Covid pandemic and response to January 6 attack. "I appreciate the ongoing investigation by the FBI into this event."

🧵 Pull up a chair. I'm spotting some customer abuse that may link to dodgy accounting
It all started this week when my dear friends told me John Legend canceled his concert planned for Tanglewood in August. They found out because the venue emailed them and promised refunds
1/
I purchased my ticket through a website called @ticketoffices and was billed via PayPal by a company called Ticket Fulfillment Services LP.
So, I went to the website and the chat confirmed that the concert was canceled but that I had to phone customer service. So I did.
2/
The phone call lasted nearly 30 minutes during I asked for a full refund and the rep placed me on hold twice so she could "investigate" the situation even after she confirmed it was canceled.

💥 OMG. They just now unredacted those key portions. So I’m now going to just show you the pages that were previously redacted. I’ll show you the before and after.

🧵 I have a theory about the content of part two of the 2019 memo to Barr on whether the Mueller report provided enough evidence to prosecute Trump fit obstruction. This is the part @TheJusticeDept is holding back.
1/
And though I would have preferred it being released and it’s entirety now, it’s complicated. Let’s walk through this.
2/
Before I do. I want to be clear, I’m not talking about the legal justification/argument for a stay pending appeal. That is set forth very clearly in the court documents.
3/
Refreshing PACER constantly today. Nothing there yet as of 8:45 a.m. So nervous. Really hoping @TheJusticeDept will do the right thing and give @CREWcrew the memo Bill Barr relied on
