Ridership has dropped to non-existent levels.

Because of the contracts involved AND the tens of millions in government grants (which would have to be repaid if the streetcar is shut down), it would be just as — IF NOT MORE EXPENSIVE — to shut it down. fox6now.com/news/streetcar…

So Milwaukee taxpayers, still reeling from a year of Covid lockdowns which have emptied downtown (I drive through downtown for work…it’s dead compared to what it was pre-covid) are on the hook for a ton of money to operate a failing streetcar.

I have a small lot, a modest house. I still pay $4,000 a year in property taxes.

That will only go up.

In 2015, then-alderman Tony Zielinski, who opposed the streetcar, warned this would happen and told the common council and mayor: “You can’t say that no one warned you.”

Where was the media then? Where was the investigative reporting that could’ve done the basic math I did over and over again? The ones that showed, unequivocally, that this was going to be a fiscal nightmare?

No where except in conservative circles.

And now we were right.

And if it wasn’t going to cost me thousands of my hard-earned dollars, it would be hilarious.
