This is just ethnic cope. Ellis Islanders played a much greater role in turning America into an egalitarian “idea” than the old stock. 19th century America was not a liberal commune
Fitzhugh thought the Southern elites were "Normans," which they weren't. Fitzhugh also didn't represent mainstream antebellum opinion. Ulster Scots primarily came from the Scottish-English borderland and are considered old stock. They're not ethnics
Also southerners from Jefferson and Calhoun to anti-integrationists in the 50s and 60s called themselves "Anglo-Saxons." Here's George Wallace in 1963
If you read more and got over your ethnic resentment, you'd realize that Anglo Americans are more than just Yankee Puritans. The majority of Southerners identified as Anglo-Saxon, as seen in the rhetoric of their leaders from Jefferson onwards
It's also strange to blame all Anglos for random kooky movements while absolving Italians for comprising a significant part of the American anarchist and communist movements in the early 1900s.

Interesting fact: Northern Virginia's congressman in the 1950s and 60s was the leading House opponent against civil rights, Howard W. Smith. He was succeeded by a Republican. His old district is now the bluest in Virginia
Smith represented the southern half of Northern Virginia in the 60s. The northern half was represented by a conservative Republican, Joel Broyhill, who also opposed integration. Smith's district, the 8th, has been a Dem stronghold since 1990. Broyhill's turned blue in 2018.
The other Northern Virginia district--the 11th, recreated in 1992--was actually pretty Republican up until the last decade. GOP lost in the 2008 blue wave, and then nearly won it back in 2010. Now Dems win it by 40 points every year
True. Increasingly convinced total student loan forgiveness is just a gift to AWFLs, the Antifa-supporting lumpen bourgeoisie, and the universities. The universities don’t cover the cost—the taxpayer does
Don’t get me wrong, we need serious reforms of higher education and the student loan system is a travesty. But for the Right, straight up loan forgiveness is a case of rewarding your enemies with your people’s money.
The professional managerial class is the most burdened by student loan debt. Taxpayer-funded forgiveness is not populism but a handout to liberal elites wolfstreet.com/2020/11/22/tax…
