Hendry County, FL. principal Melissa Carter - who repeatedly hit a child with a paddle as her aide held the 6yo girl down - is being recommended by the school board for reappointment. The local prosecutor determined that Carter did not break the law.
This update was first reported today by @winknews. The child that Carter repeatedly hit with a paddle was accused of scratching a computer screen. The child’s mother tried to press charges against the principal but the local prosecutor rejected it.
When I asked the local prosecutors office if it would’ve been illegal for the principal to hit a dog like that, the prosecutors office refused to answer the question. The state prosecutor is Amira Fox.
The principal has now gone after the mother accusing her of illegally recording the principal repeatedly hitting her child. The same prosecutor office which ruled the principal did nothing wrong is the prosecutor reviewing the principals police report filing against the mother.
.@winknews reports that corporal punishment is not allowed in Hendry Co. where this happened, according to the school districts policy. The principal violated her own district’a rules. That same district is now recommending her for reappointment.
Florida does allow for corporal punishment. It’s up to each school district to decide.
