Well Liz Truss has thrashed out the first "from scratch" trade deal, and it's with Australia. There's been a lot said about how this will affect farmers.

Here's how it will affect Animal Welfare.... 1/8

Barren Battery Cages - mean each hen has an area smaller than an A4 sheet of paper to move around in.
Sow Stalls - are a cage where a Sow can't move or even turn around. 2/8

Hormone Fed Beef - The calves are injected with hormones to speed their growth, this is necessary as the nutrition to raise cows on grass like in the UK just isn't there in Australia. It comes with both animal and public health concerns.

Hot Branding - self explanatory. 3/8

Mulesing - is tearing the fleece bearing flesh off from around a lambs anus so that it heals without the ability to grow fleece there so it doesn't get covered in faeces. These wounds can easily get infected and lambs often die.

Slaughterhouse CCTV - self explanatory 4/8

Live Exports - self explanatory
Yes most of us are lucky enough to have the choice not to eat this sub-standard food. But there are people without those economic choices. 5/8

The poorest amongst us will most likely end up eating these sub-standard products, they will find their way into processed food and most likely School Dinners before long. 6/8

Our first free Trade Deal sets the tone for the rest, America will be next with very similar low standards of animal husbandry and the rest of the world will be queueing up to make deals with us, as bad as this. 7/8

This deal is a betrayal, there's no other way to describe it.

All we have to look forward to now.... is more betrayal.
