আজ ২০শে জুন, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ দিবস। সেটা আবার কি? সেটা আমাদের অনেকেই জানি না, কারণ এই ইতিহাসটা লিপিবদ্ধ হয় নি।
১৯৪৭ সালের মার্চ মাস নাগাদ কংগ্রেস নেতৃবৃন্দ ভারত ভাগ স্বীকার করে নিলেন। কেন নিলেন? কারণ (১) ক্ষমতার লোভ (২) মাউন্টব্যাটেনের কূটনীতি (৩) জিন্নার প্রবল ইচ্ছাশক্তি। একবার

ভেবে দেখলেন না, সীমান্তের ওপারে ইসলামী রাষ্ট্র পাকিস্তানে যে সব হিন্দু-শিখ-বৌদ্ধ-খ্রিষ্টান তাদের কি হবে |
সে সময় অবিভক্ত বাংলা ছিল ৫৫% মুসলিম, ৪৫% হিন্দু। মুসলিম লীগ দাবি তুলল যে গোটা বাংলাই পাকিস্তানকে দিতে হবে। এটা হলে আসামও বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যেত এবং কালক্রমে সেটাও পাকিস্তানে

চলে যেত। কিন্তু এই চক্রান্ত বিফল হল শুধু একজন মানুষের জন্য, যাঁর নাম শ্যামাপ্রসাদ মুখোপাধ্যায়। তিনি তাঁর বিশাল রাজনৈতিক দূরদৃষ্টি দিয়ে বুঝতে পেরেছিলেন ইসলামী পাকিস্তান হিন্দুদের জন্য নরকে পরিণত হবে। সেইজন্য তিনি দাবী করলেন, ভারত ভাগ করলে বাংলাকেও ভাগ করে বাংলার হিন্দুপ্রধান

অঞ্চলগুলি নিয়ে একটা ‘পশ্চিমবঙ্গ’ সৃষ্টি করতে হবে, যা হবে হিন্দুপ্রধান ভারতের অংশ।
এই বিষয়ে প্রচার করার জন্য শ্যামাপ্রসাদ সারা বাংলা চষে বেড়ালেন এবং কংগ্রেসেরও সমর্থন পেলেন। সেই সময়কার বাঙালি হিন্দু মনীষীরা, যেমন সুনীতিকুমার চট্টোপাধ্যায়, যদুনাথ সরকার, রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার

ইত্যাদিরও তাঁকে অকুন্ঠ সমর্থন করলেন। করেন নি শুধু নেতাজির অগ্রজ শরৎচন্দ্র বসু। কিন্তু সে অন্য কাহিনী।
এই সমর্থনের জোরে বঙ্গীয় আইনসভা বাংলা ভাগ করার প্রস্তাব পাশ করল। সে দিনটা ছিল ২০শে জুন ১৯৪৭।
সেই পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সৃষ্টি হয়েছিল বলে আমরা বাঙালি হিন্দুরা

নিজেদের ভূমি পেয়েছিলাম। ইসলামী রাষ্ট্রে জিম্মি হয়ে থাকতে হয় নি।
তাই এই দিনটিতে এই মহাপুরুষ শ্যামাপ্রসাদের চরণে শতকোটি প্রণাম।
