First it appears a number of areas assessed and this is simply one part of it —the grade 3 English Language Arts portion
Second, overall I find the results pretty consistent with reports from other school districts in this manner: we see slightly higher % of students in the lower-achievement categories.
In general there is lower % of students attaining at least level 3 or at expectations —some really big drops for some counties and I don’t know more details about those
A HUGE caveat and again this is consistent with what I’m seeing other state reports: the vast majority of standardized test takers were from brick and mortar schools. Only 1% we’re from virtual programs.
Given that research shows schools with greater % of higher risk students more likely to be virtual, one questions whether data underestimate actual progress. This has been highlighted by testing companies as well.
Finally, higher numbers of students of color, emerging English learners and those with disabilities are falling in the low achievement category. The #s aren’t massive but again, this is consistent with other ‘reading’ status reports; math results tend to be greater
