Government has facilitated the creation of over 18 000 jobs through Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) since 2018, with thousands more in the pipeline. This has been said by Minister of Commerce Manqoba Khumalo when presenting an update on the Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan. 
A further E16 Billion worth of investments, with the capacity to create 32 535 jobs, are either at preparation, implementation or complete stage under the Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan. This is against 1 702 jobs that were made redundant from January 2020 to March 2021.
Minister Khumalo: “In the year 2018/19, a total of seven companies were established & these created 1 854 jobs. Six of the companies are in the textile sector as two expanded their investments. One investment is in the wine processing industry.”
Minister Khumalo: “In the year 2019/2020, a total of 11 companies were established & these created 4, 917 jobs. KDDP & LUSIP projects in the agriculture sector contributed 3, 714 jobs."
Minister Khumalo: "The remaining jobs were from the construction of the Kellogg's factory, expansion in the textile sector, forestry, sugar, PVC pipes & rum processing."
Minister Khumalo: “In 2020/21, 49 new investments were realised & created 11 381 jobs in retail, commercial banks, property development, investment, manufacturing & infrastructure sector including shopping complexes, filling stations, warehouses, hardware store & many others.”
The Economic Recovery Plan was launched on 14 August 2020 & earmarked projects worth E30 Billion aimed at reviving the economy post COVID-19. A Delivery Unit was subsequently launched, which has four clusters: Key Enablers, MSME, Youth & Women, Investment & Government Projects.
