.@SenWhitehouse said he has now reviewed all of his memberships and affiliations and determined a sailing club he is in also lacks diversity.

“Failing to address the sailing club’s lack of diversity is squarely on me, and something for which I am sorry.”

Quick correction.. Fanone is an MPD officer. That is my mistake.
Fanone and Dunn just emerged from McCarthy’s office. When asked how it went Fanone said “I need a drink”. Image
Fanone said he asked McCarthy for three specific things:
*Denounce the 21 members who voted against the gold medal bill.
*Denounce Rep. Clyde’s assertion it was an “average tourist day”
*Denounce GOP conspiracy theories the FBI was involved.

RIGHT NOW: @RepMTG is apologizing for comments she made comparing mask mandates to the Holocaust. She said that her father taught her to take responsibility when she makes a mistake- and in this instance she made a mistake.
.@RepMTG says that she visited the Holocaust museum and said she was learned more about the horrors of that period of time. She said there was “no comparisons to what happened there.”
I asked @RepMTG If this experience would lead her reject the disinformation spread by Qanon followers- some of which deny the Holocaust- she said she did not know of what information was spread by Q followers.

NEW: On the Senate floor- @LeaderMcConnell attacks Senate Dems that have called on former Attorneys General to testify as to what they knew about the leak investigations during the Trump Administration.
McConnell says he believes the Attorney General's IG investigation into the subpoenas of communications of reporters and Members of Congress is sufficient and any additional inquiries by groups like the Senate Judiciary Committee would be akin to a "witch hunt."
McConnell said the DOJ "Is empowered to investigate criminal conduct by members of Congress, and there's necessarily this sort of investigation is subject to strict procedural protections..." (more)

Voting underway in the House of Representatives on the bill to form a commission to look into the events on January 6th.
Already 20 GOP YES votes for the commission, which was on the low end of many prognosticator forecasts.
Now up to 25 YES votes from Republicans for the 1/6 Commission. 126 have voted NO.

In a prelude to the House passage of the 1/6 Commission Bill- Homeland Security Chair Benny Thompson said that leadership (aka Pelosi/ McCarthy) was kept in the loop and offered changes and suggestions throughout his negotiations with GOP Ranking Member John Katko. Image
“It’s quite unfortunate that the Minority Leader has, at the last moment, raised issues that, basically, we had gone past, and there was no issue, despite all his talk now. But I guess that’s politics,” Thompson said.
.@SpeakerPelosi stops short of warning that if the Commission plans fail that she will call for a select committee.
“I certainly could call for hearings in the house with a majority of the members being Democrat,” she said (more)
