So #Resign is trending in regard to the Crown–Indigenous Relations Min. Carolyn Bennett who stated in public that she will wear orange and STILL celebrate a Country "that MADE some very terrible mistakes."

Hooboy this might be a thread or just a couple of tweets but...

1/7
She stated that she will wear orange and still celebrate Canada in the very same statement that suggests that "mistakes were made".

Past tense.

@JustinTrudeau has already stated on Twitter that #SystemicRacism exists in Canada.

This is not past tense, it is ongoing.

2/7
Now the Sitting Prime Minister of Canada is no shining example when it comes to any credibility when it comes to as he put it, "Our most important relationship" with Indigenous but he is still the PM.

That she still has a job...how do I put this?

3/7
Now I've had quite the day already, built a bridge even (thanks new friend) but on the day that another Province is adding to the death toll of the Residential Schools, to hear those who represent us essentially dismissing us and distancing themselves...

#Disheartening

4/7
Disheartening to say the least. Canada has a problem. It's entire IDENTITY has been shaken to it's core.

Genocide is the foundation & some will lose their damn minds, some will refuse to listen as they know it all already; others will adapt.

Twitter has been a ride 2day.

5/7
Canada's Genocide is not an event with mass graves. It is an on going structure (TY @TheAgentNDN), one that many need to come to grips with.

Minister Bennett's callousness epitomizes every Indigenous Affairs Minister all the way back to the Indian Agents.

6/7
I stand with all those who feels she needs to resign because she absolutely needs to.

She is a detriment to the reconciliation process that needs to occur.

With respect, @Carolyn_Bennett...please...

Read this article. It is well written and while genocide deniers will find fault in it, that is them. Like the media of those days and today, they have a Narrative that they want to protect.

The Narrative of their exceptionalism. Fear is what drove them, it still does.

"...having a trio of all-encompassing negative qualities: depravity, innate inferiority and a stubborn resistance to progress."

This is what the media of the day said about indigenous People & the irony is not lost on me. The irony? Read on...

The article points out how the media of the day fed the fears of the politicians who developed the Indian Act as it exists today. Largely unchanged.

Those finding fault with this are merely holding on to what they incorrectly believe is "truth/facts".

Right, the irony...

It has been asked of me whether I see systemic racism in Canada and I do.

This will be a thread, "I see it..."

#IseeIt

1/17
I see it written into the language of The Indian Act, language from the 1800's which carries that mentality forward.

2/17
I see it in the unspoken tradition of high fives from a couple of backbenchers when UNDRIP is voted down. Yet again.

It's celebrated.
