Our folks will get slammed by this covid Delta Variant. The news feels a bit like March/April 2020 again. But since White communities are far more vaccinated than Black/Brown communities…this country will keep it moving & even more readily ignore the next wave of trauma. 🥺🥺🥺
They’ll literally shrug their shoulders, say we should’ve gotten the vaccine & then we wouldn’t be so susceptible to the next covid wave. Social safety “nets” put into place during covid are ending & the low levels of support people relied up won’t be there during Delta’s peak.
What hurts is how many of Us think the vaccine is a tool of the man to harm us in some future way while there’s a whole ass virus preying on us in real time…except in communities where folks are vaccinated.
Coming covid deaths in our folks are preventable. They’ll become premature ancestors unnecessarily. When I’m in a cvs, Walgreens, etc, there’s a line of White & Asian adults w teens waiting for vaccines. I don’t know the numbers. But our visible absence from those lines is stark.
