1. I am a clinician working in @_TheNMH, providing the full spectrum of #abortion care to women & girls & transgender people, I provide high risk maternity care with clinicians with St Vincents Hospital. I campaigned to #repealthe8th. I do not support the #makeNMHOurs campaign
@_TheNMH 2. We are ALREADY providing abortion care, as a part of our overall care to people within @_TheNMH & St Vincents. Listen to our fantastic colleague Dr Zara Fonseca Kelly talk about this today @rte - I stand with her & @donalb5 saying I also provide rte.ie/radio/radiopla…
3. Making a hospital public - that is, a HSE hospital rather than a voluntary hospital - does not guarantee abortion care. ALL the hospitals within Ireland not providing abortion care are HSE hospitals. All three voluntary maternity hospitals are providing the full spectrum
4. Abortion care is an important part of our work, but also just 1 part. We need to move to a co-located hospital with support from our fantastic medical colleagues. Everyone agrees with this. We say on a near daily basis what a difference this will make to the people we care for
5. What the #MakeNMHOurs campaign has shown is that there is a deep abscess of pain & anger against religion in Ireland. This pain & anger must be expressed. But please do not take this out on a fantastic project that is really required for women's health.
6. I have worked in Obstetrics for 20 years now. I have been able to work within the limits of legality & my conscience & ethics. Those who support the #MakeNMHOurs campaign should know that this campaign is the 1st time religion has potentially affected the care that I provide
7. Let me say that again. This campaign is the first time religion is being brought into care. I have never had a nun or priest stop me from providing care. But the #MakeNMHOurs campaign run by well meaning people who do not have the full details may. Please let that sink in.
8. Last point. @drboylan was a good clinical colleague. In this area, however, he support to #makeNMHours does not represent my view or the views of my fantastic & wonderful colleagues who are currently providing the very best of care in an incredibly challenging infrastructure.
