Shahuji Maharaj and Baba Sahab Ambedkar's association was modern India's first true unofficial OBC - Dalit collaboration that paved way for a process (still continuing) to unify marginalized communities of a diverse nation like India, under one umbrella of "Bahujan".

Being a Maratha is a complex identity as it remains trapped under half hearted attempt of Marathi Brahmins to Sanskritize an OBC community, which they would rather not do, especially when there are Brahmin Peshwas to glorify.

Had it not been glory,villor & might of Chatrapati Shivaji, Marathi Brahmins wouldn't have"Kshatriyized" Maratha in ways that actually deliberately confused caste status of Marathas (even till today). If I were a Maratha, I would never forgive this cunningness of Marathi Brahmins
Perhaps Shahuji Maharaj understood this & developed an empathy towards his marginalized subjects in a manner, which wasn't seen much among princely states of British India. His association, bonding & friendship with Baba Sahab is something which is remarkable and pointer to this.
There were few royals who did emancipatory reforms in their kingdoms but not any cultivated personnel bonding with some one from simple background and Dalit caste the way Shahuji did.
I am so happy that in Baba Sahab's legacy, Shahuji Maharaj occupies an important place.

Shahuji Maharaj is more than a man who "first gave reservations". He did so much more. Desire to uplift underprivileged was always at back of his reforms, which were staunchly secular & anti-elite & not necessarily anti Brahmin. It just so happens that Brahmins were only elite.
Lastly,
Maratha community has come long way.They are both powerful and destitute. People think all Maratha are like Sharad Pawar, but not true. There is vast poverty.Their icons have been looted & Brahminized & community itself Sanskritized by RSS
