"NOW, WE EVEN TAKE PLAYERS FROM KINDERGARTEN"

He was only 17 years when he was asked to join the Inter's
senior team.
His older team mate Leopoldo Conti who felt
slighted that he was being 'benched' by a player he
considered too young to join the team, exclaimed, ' Now, we
even take players from kindergarten'.
It was Giuseppe Meazza's debut and he scored two goals during that match.

Meazza reminds one of David who took on a big challenge of
facing Goliath at that same age. His older brothers
considered him ill-experienced for the task because of his
age.
Meazza still holds the record for the most goals scored in a
debut season in Serie A, with 31 goals in his first season
(1929–30).
The year before, when Serie A did not exist, and the Italian Championship was composed of 2 leagues (North and Central-South) with playoffs, Meazza played 29 matches, scoring 38 goals at the age of 18 years. He scored 5 goals in a single game, twice in one season.
However, one incident reverberated around the world and will
remain etched indelibly in the annals of soccer and the World Cup. It was at the 1938 World Cup which held in France. Italy's dictator, Benito Mussolini had sent a telegram to Meazza with a curt message 'Win or die'.
During the semi final match against Brazil, Italy was awarded a
penalty. The Brazilian goalkeeper Walter, who was famous for
hypnotizing his opponents and for saving penalties back in Brazil, arrogantly claimed he was certain he would save the shot.
Meazza made no fuss, but as he stepped up to take the
kick, his shorts fell down because the elastic around the
waist had earlier been pulled and ripped by a defender.
Meazza, without letting this stress him, pulled up his
shorts with one hand and shot past the confused Walter, who
was still busy laughing. His celebrating team-mates
surrounded him until a new pair of shorts were produced.
The goal sent Italy into their second consecutive World Cup
final. It was his last goal for Italy. The San Siro stadium also called Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, is named after him.
In 2 Samuel 6, David went around town praising The Lord with
the ark of the covenant. He danced so vigorously that he
became uncovered but he didn't have a care in the world.
While he was focused on praising God, his wife Michal was
more concerned about pointing out his wardrobe malfunction.
God took note of Michal's scorn and she was punished
bitterly for it. She still remains the only barren woman in
the Bible that never gave birth.
Life is more important than a temporary wardrobe malfunction. If you don't allow any distraction to get in your way, you will soon score beautiful goals on the way to victory.
Prayer- Lord, turn every mockery into celebration for me.

Ayinla Omowura- The Movie

When I saw the creatives on the wall of Folorunso Fatai Adisa , I knew it was a movie I had to watch. I bought the book written on Ayinla Omowura by Festus Adedayo earlier but I've not yet read it so the release of the movie heightened my curiosity.
The music of Ayinla Omowura was part of my childhood. Radio O-Y-O (now known as BCOS) played his music along with other Yoruba legends such as Haruna Ishola, Yusuf Olátúnjí, Dauda Epo Akara, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Batile Alake, Salawa Abeni, Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade,
Shina Adéwálé, Delẹ Abiodun, Emperor Pick Peters, Sir Dele Ojo and Ayinla Kollington among others. I know so many elderly folks who relish Omowura's music particularly.

Lessons My Father Taught Me

A few days ago, I stopped by at my father's office to check on him and also give him a copy of my new book 40 Lessons I Learnt Along The Way. I also gave him the audio-book copy for him to play in his car.
I had to wait for him a bit as he was out of office. That period gave me the opportunity to reflect on my relationship with my father. When I gave him a copy of my book, I saw the joy that radiated from his face.
He looked at the book and prayed for me. As I said amen to his prayers, several thoughts passed through my mind.

#21Lessonsin21years: The Ten Commandments of Managing Your Boss (3)- Part 1

Knowing how to handle your superiors may well be one of the greatest skills you need to have at work. Your boss holds the power of life and death (in a manner of speaking) over your career.
He/she determines who is promoted or fired. Fortunately, we can control how our bosses perceive us to a very large extent. I usually tell colleagues at work that it is the duty of the subordinate to manage up his/her superior. It is not only subordinates that need to be managed.
Managing people is actually a three-way thing: managing upwards (your superiors), managing downwards (your subordinates) and managing sideways (your colleagues). The most critical is managing upwards. More people fail at managing upwards than downwards.

My Buffet, My Nigeria

Wanted to eat breakfast this morning.

I saw a guy in front of a lectern. I almost turned back as I thought a church was holding a meeting there. I didn’t know the guy was a staff monitoring those going in and coming out. As I entered, he asked for my room.
I moved closer to where the food was displayed. I always loved their food because of the vast choice. But something looked different this morning. I assumed they were still going to bring more. It was my favourite hotel and the breakfast was my primary reason. Always buffet.
I picked one of the spoons to serve myself. One of the ladies approached me and said, ‘I will serve you, sir’. Serve me? Nigba wo ni gbogbo iyen bere? When did this one start? She served me a few pieces of yam. And then put some fish stew.

#21Lessonsin21years: ‘People Might Not Like You But Never Give Them The Opportunity To Say You Don’t Know Your Job’ (2)

This morning, I had a conversation with a colleague at work. He shared 3 things his former boss told him. He said they have been the foundation of his career.
First: People might not like you but never give them the opportunity to say you don’t know your job.

Second: You are too young for office politics: don’t get involved.

Third: No one should ever say, ‘You said or didn’t say’.
I’ll focus on the first piece of advise.

I worked with a superior some years back whom I thought was just looking for the easiest of excuses to get rid of me. It was a very tough situation then that I didn’t look forward to going to work each day.

#21Lessonsin21years: Find A Way To Connect To A Source Greater Than You (1)

We had a deadline. An impossible one. Turn around the branch in 30 days or get fired. The countdown had started. I was a Team Lead and I saw the pains in the eyes of my Branch Manager.
We had to do all we could to meet the deadline. We ran all over town, trying to pull the chest out of fire. Nothing seemed to work.
I came to church that Sunday feeling very drained. I was tired and had given up. Will my career end this way? We had a Guest Minister that Sunday - a popular architect- who also has a church in Ibadan. After the service, he went into our Pastor’s office and I requested to see him
