NEW: With dozens of alleged Proud Boys members charged for Jan 6 actions and news that he had been a federal informant National Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio tells me he'll be stepping down from that role in September.

npr.org/2021/06/28/101…
Tarrio said he will be stepping aside from his national role in the Proud Boys to focus on his local chapter in Miami.

In fact, one of his top priorities for this year has been to encourage Proud Boys to run in local city council or GOP races.

npr.org/2021/06/28/101…
Enrique Tarrio confirmed that he did run a t-shirt business that sold 'Black Lives Matter' merchandise, claiming this not as a sign of financial desperation but a sly prank in which Proud Boys earned beer money through BLM t-shirts

npr.org/2021/06/28/101…
The NPR investigations desk has tracked more than 30 individuals w/alleged links to the Proud Boys that have been charged in the Jan 6 insurrection

NEW: A federal judge has dismissed the NRA's bankruptcy case, finding that the NRA was just using the bankruptcy as a vehicle to avoid the New York AG's attempt to dissolve it for alleged corruption
The federal judge said the NRA did not file the bankruptcy case in good faith, and "agrees with the NYAG that the NRA is using this bankruptcy case to address a regulatory enforcement problem, not a financial one."
The end result in this effort to avoid the New York AG?

-NRA spent millions of dollars on a bankruptcy trial (they've spent $72 MILLION in less than three years in legal fees)

-Their embarrassing dirty laundry is aired for the public

-They're right back where they started

Oh wow the Wayne LaPierre elephant hunting video leaked.

The video is referenced in litigation but has never been seen before -- it shows Wayne and his wife killing two elephants in Botswana.

The video is graphic:

newyorker.com/news/news-desk…
One thing you notice from the video is how panicked and incompetent Wayne LaPierre seems with a firearm despite some 40 years with the NRA.
After several attempts at killing an apparently wounded elephant at near-point blank range, Wayne LaPierre continually misses the target his guide is directing him towards.

His friend had to take the final shot.

I can't imagine how long soldiers had to police call and search for that optic/rifle before they concluded it was missing
There was a big sign at Fort Jackson warning sergeants:

'Lose a Rifle, Lose Your Stripes' -- meaning a very serious demotion and other dire consequences. It is among the worst things a soldier can do out of negligence in a garrison setting
Here's a great piece explaining why:

"Short of actively committing a crime, in the peacetime US military the worst thing a soldier can do is lose a weapon"

Incredible story of law enforcement refusing to compensate a woman despite:

--driving an armored vehicle through her fencing

--detonating explosives on her garage door

--driving through her front door

--covering everything in tear gas

--rendering her dog deaf and blind
You might think, doesn't the constitution require that this home owner be compensated?

Well yes, but also, and more importantly -- no?

reason.com/2021/03/05/swa…
The woman is 76 years old, and was set to begin retirement, funded in part by selling her home

She had found a buyer for her home, but of course the sale fell through after the home was rendered unlivable. She's also battling stage 3 breast cancer

Just returning from book leave! Here's my latest:

Internal docs show that a nationwide concierge medical provider, One Medical, has let -- and in some case actively facilitated -- patients to skip the COVID vaccine line.

Washington State has halted COVID doses to them:
One Medical, a concierge medical provider valued in the billions, set up COVID vaccines for ineligible patients with links to the company's leadership.

npr.org/2021/02/24/970…
One Medical, which advertises itself as a tech-infused boutique health care firm, also had a booking system that in January did not stop you from booking even if you indicated you weren't eligible.

Obviously word about this spread like wildfire.
