To be clear, I believe candidates should be required to waive any statute of limitations for all predatory crimes too - so the “but they never filed charges” dance ends.
And tbh, it should be a crime to have any knowledge of criminal activity on a candidate and not report it, ‘cause that undermines our democracy and our national security…
Imagine if it were a requirement to say “I have never committed a predatory criminal act” - and if there were federal penalties of up to, say, 40y in prison - on top of any other criminal penalties.
And political parties should be able to prevent a candidate with any of those outstanding allegations in the courts from running under their banner, to prevent bad actors from trying to throw races.
