Buzzer, a new live sports platform built on real-time notifications, has raised a $20M Series A.

Investors include:
• Michael Jordan
• Wayne Gretzky
• Patrick Mahomes
• Naomi Osaka
• Devin Booker
• Sabrina Ionescu

The round was led by Sapphire Sport & Canaan Partners.
How it works:

Rather than watching a full game, Buzzer uses personalized data to notify you when an important moment is about to happen.

If you want to watch, you can authenticate through an existing subscription model (cable, ESPN+, etc.) or agree to a $0.99+ micropayment.
Buzzer has already signed deals with the NBA, NHL, and PGA Tour, as more sports leagues attempt to reach a younger audience.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers have one of the most inspiring stories in sports history.

From the streets of Athens to the NBA's bright lights, this needs to be a movie ASAP.

Time for a thread 👇👇👇
1) First, some history...

While most people refer to Giannis as "The Greek Freak," his roots actually trace back to Lagos, Nigeria.

His parents, Charles & Veronica, immigrated to Athens, Greece, before he was born — searching for employment & a better life for their family.
2) Given their status as immigrants, Charles & Veronica struggled to find work and didn't qualify for government assistance either.

The solution?

Giannis & his brothers spent hours each day selling watches & CDs in the streets of Athens.

"Sometimes, our fridge was empty.”

I asked, "what is the most beautiful sports venue in the world" last week.

Almost 1,000 people responded, providing some absolutely INCREDIBLE answers.

Here are 10 of my favorites that you probably haven't seen.

Time for a thread 👇👇👇
1) Henningsvaer Stadium

Location: Henningsvaer, Norway

Fun Fact: Located in a small fishing town of only about 500 people, the stadium is surrounded by wooden racks (called 'hjell' in Norway) that are used to dry fish, especially cod.

2) Lake Louise Pond Hockey Classic

Location: Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada

Fun Fact: For twelve straight years, an annual pond hockey tournament has been held at Lake Louise in Banff National Park.

Even better?

Team entry fees are donated to charity.

A professional sports gambler used analytics to turn a $700,000 loan into more than $300 million.

This is the wild story 👇👇👇
1) Let's start with some history...

Matthew Benham graduated from the world-renowned University of Oxford in 1989 with a degree in Physics.

He spent the next 12 years working in finance, eventually being named a VP at Bank of America.

But in 2001, he decided to change careers.
2) After leaving Bank of America in 2001, Matthew Benham joined sports gambling company Premier Bet.

His job was to help develop predictive gambling models based on analytics.

The best part?

Benham learned under one of the most successful gamblers in the world — Tony Bloom.

Every time I see a photo of Tim Tebow looking insanely jacked, I always think back to this story from his book in 2012.

Absolutely wild. ImageImage
For all those who are saying it's not true, I'm not going to argue with you. I wasn't there, so I don't know. But it's in the book.

You can check it out here: amazon.com/WILL-WIN-Denve…
Confirmed: Don't ever doubt Tim Tebow 😂

The Premier Lacrosse League is one of the most interesting case studies in sports.

They have...
• Players Get Equity
• Social Distribution
• Content x Commerce
• League Owned Teams

Now, they are releasing the best NFT I've seen in professional sports.

Here's why 👇👇👇
1) Most people are tired of hearing about NFTs by now.

They know how the story goes. A company or individual with a large audience creates a digital token with the hopes of selling it to their fans.

The only problem?

Most NFTs are just photos or videos on a blockchain.
2) The real value of NFTs is going to lie at the intersection of:

• Highly engaged audiences
• Great creative
• Special access
• Desirable utility

If NFT issuers can put these four criteria together, they have the chance to create an incredibly valuable product.

Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and others were inducted into the Hall of Fame this past weekend.

The part you didn't know?

A former car salesman that has never played in, coached, or broadcasted a single NBA game was also inducted.

This is his incredible story 👇👇👇
1) Let's start in 1984...

With political turmoil making living conditions in India unsafe, Nav Bhatia fled his home country — moving to Canada.

The only problem?

Despite a degree in mechanical engineering, Nav struggled to find work because of his "long beard & turban.”
2) After spending months applying to hundreds of jobs with no luck, Nav Bhatia finally accepted a job as a car salesman.

It was in the rough part of town, and he was severely overqualified, but his mission was simple:

"To prove hard work trumps hate.”
