The Morrison government has taken commuters for a ride.

Using public money as if it were Liberal Party funds.

What we’ve learned about #CarParkRorts this week.

A THREAD
Desperate to buy votes, the Morrison government ripped up the rule book in 2019.

They made promises no one could keep - and they must have known this at the time.

So, the commuter car parks program is a disaster, with only 2 completed out of 47.

But that’s not the real story.
The Auditor-General found that they never bothered to speak with councils or state governments, so they had no idea what was happening on the ground.

That’s probably why NONE of the 47 projects were proposed by the Department.

Every single decision, purely based on politics.
At least one project was funded, when it wasn’t eligible.

The funding of others has been doubted by legal experts.

Promised projects keep getting abandoned- because they never could have been built.
There’s too much we still don’t know.

Minister Tudge and Mr McCormack must come clean.

And the PM must explain his involvement.

Australians need to see the mysterious spreadsheet that went to his office.

The smoking gun.

Just like in #sportrorts
Minister Fletcher says, disgracefully, that’s its all ok.

That this doesn’t matter because they won the election.

This is contemptuous, contemptible - and wrong.

Australians deserve a government that plays by the rules, and spends public money for public benefit.
Hard working people who have to rush early and drive to a train station every morning to start their day have been cheated by Mr Morrison.

And they deserve to know the ugly truth behind #carparkrorts

We won’t rest until we uncover it.

Australians deserve nothing less.

Last year I asked the Auditor-General to investigate the Morrison Government’s commuter car park program.

His report has just been tabled.

It has shocked me.

This is sports rorts on an industrial scale.

THREAD
This program was always about buying votes, not addressing the real needs of suburban commuters.

It’s the centrepiece of a $4.8 billion fund, the Urban Congestion Fund, that has also been mired in controversy for project delays and delivering 83% of its funding to target seats.
With #carparkrorts it’s a staggering 87% of funds to Coalition or target seats.

(Amazing when you the remember Labor holds the majority of urban seats.)

Due perhaps to a selection process including Liberal MPs!

You always hear the Morrison Govt say how they are tough on
crime and they deport foreign criminals, but every now and then a story emerges
which should be cause for concern. Time for a thread (one the Minister for Home Affairs or Immigration Minister definitely won’t like)
It’s important that Australia has laws which keep Australians safe – and that includes being able to cancel the visas of non-citizens who are criminals or may be a threat to our community.
These laws mean Australia can deport non-citizens who are serious criminals or stop them or anti-vaxxers or extremists from entering in the first place. When they are administered incorrectly, it means someone (hint: the Home Affairs or Immi Minister) isn’t doing their job.
