Throughout the 20th century, foreign media used to refer to India as "The land of snake charmers". It would feel awkward cz anyone who had visited the subcontinent at least once, would have come cross innumerable Temple, wildlife, flora & fauna and thousands of culture.

So, instead of calling it the land of heritage or the land of wildlife, Indians would wonder why all journalists co-incidentally used the same rhetoric of referring to it as the land of snake charmers.
The simple reason was that the propaganda of India as land of snake charmers, was peddled by none other than our very own Indian Congress leaders themselves, led by Nehru.
Whenever there was any foreign delegation or press meet, instead of showcasing our ancient heritage like Bharatnatyam or classical music, Nehru would invariably hire a snake charmer to entertain foreign guests & would leave no stone unturned in portraying India as a backward...
civilization without any heritage, except for snake charmers, which the journalists would happily latch on to, and peddle the same further in their newspapers abroad.
It doesn't end there, as Nehru was highly influential in brainwashing millions of young Indians as well, into disowning their own heritage. For example, his rhetoric of referring to dams as Temples of Modern India, was a well planned strategy to manipulate young minds..
into distancing themselves from Hindu Temples in general, in the pretext of appreciating dams. Not to forget, his role in preventing renovation of various ancient temples, is well documented, with the top example being Somnath Temple...
in which he not only boycotted the inauguration, but also tried to prevent Sardar Patel & President Rajendra Prasad as well.
Also, those children who were exposed to his writings, were thoroughly brainwashed into literally shunning Indian culture & heritage altogether.
For example, in one of his books, he clearly states that when he looks at the grand Hindu temples with intricate carvings, he feels intimidated, and thus avoids visiting them.
So, looking back in hindsight, it now becomes very clear to us about Nehru's agenda, his deep distrust against anything related to Indian culture, and thus the question of "Why foreign media called us land of snake charmers?"
is not a mystery anymore, since we now know that the seeds to such propaganda was sown by our very own "Chacha" himself.
It is surprising to see that millions of Hindus have been so deeply brainwashed by leftist propaganda, that they have now started cutting the branch on which they are sitting.

One particular aspect in this context, is about Saints (Yogis, Babas, etc), whose intentions have been questioned by our very own Hindus, just because those Saints do not come under the rigid definition of "Sadhu" according to such Hindus.
Let me explain with concrete examples. We have all noticed how Baba Ramdev, who has motivated millions into taking up Yoga & Ayurveda, has been constantly hounded and his intentions questioned, just because he started a company (Patanjali).
