Back in 2003, in Silicon Valley, 2 engineers, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning created Tesla.
The founders were looking for funding. Enter Elon Musk.
When eBay bought PayPal in 2002, Elon walked away with $180 million.
With $100 million into SpaceX, $10 million into SolarCity, and $70 million into Tesla, he became the chairperson of the company’s board.
By the fall of 2008, Tesla only had $9 million left to its name. With multiple CEOs before him, Musk was now in charge.
The world economy crashed after the Great Depression and after 3 failed rocket launches, SpaceX was close to bankruptcy. By December 2008, Tesla too was heading towards closure.
But Musk wasn't one to give up.
Musk gathered $20 million, including the return-on-investment from his cousin’s startup, Everdream.
And on Christmas eve, he got an investment of $40 million. In May 2009 when German automaker Daimler invested $15 million, they also received a $465 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Finally, Tesla went public at $17 a share and found a stable solution.
In the years 2013 and 2018, Tesla found itself close to bankruptcy yet again.
And yet, they managed to stay afloat.
Today, Tesla’s share price hovers around $700 a share, but speculations suggest that they will rise higher.
Tesla is now one of the most successful producers of electric cars. All of it is credited to Musk's brilliance and perseverance.
With Tesla, Musk has proved exemplary zeal and drive, time and again, and most of all, the power of passion.
How do you think Tesla will perform in India?
