Cop Plays Taylor Swift to Prevent Video Sharing of Him Harassing Protesters ‼️

A cop demanded we move #Justice4StevenTaylor banners. We asked him why. He pulled out his phone & played a Taylor Swift song.

“You can record all you want, I just know it can’t be posted to YouTube."
Here's the full video:
Yes, copyright law needs reform.

AND this is a MASSIVE waste of public resources. At a time when the Oakland Police Chief is spreading misinformation, with support from Mayor Libby Schaaf and Council Member Loren Taylor, about 911 response times and fear-mongering about...
... a decrease in public safety following the reallocation of $18.4m from the police budget to alternative police-free services, it’s remarkable to see two highly paid sergeants & two deputies spend time policing family members of a man shot by police outside a hearing.
We were at the steps of the court for a hearing about the police murder of Steven Taylor.

Please support his family: linktr.ee/justice4steven…

BREAKING: The Oakland City Council just voted to reallocate $18M from Oakland Police to violence prevention programs and mental health services.

Today we changed the course of direction for our city.

Here's our statement...
Since the murder of Oscar Grant at the Fruitvale BART station, APTP has fought to redefine public safety in the City of Oakland.

Today’s vote in support of @nikki4oakland's budget to cut police spending & fund crucial social services shows Oakland’s commitment as a...
... progressive city to support policies that actually keep us safe.

We applaud @nikki4oakland & @carroll_fife leadership in standing with the people of Oakland & pushing back against Schaaf’s blank check for OPD.

Comment from @RobeloDaniel, APTP member at City Council meeting today: "I’m calling to support Council President Bas’s budget and to reject the Taylor amendment to fund an unprecedented 5th cop academy with our covid relief money."

"That’s money for Oaklanders struggling to survive the pandemic, feed their families & stay in their homes.
It’s appalling we’re even considering it & emblematic of everything that’s wrong in this town, which has become a dystopian police state w/growing shantytowns...
... crumbling infrastructure & rising violence. The Council President & her budget team have given us a chance to try something new & start to reimagine safety by funding violence prevention, jobs, housing, MACRO 24/7 crisis response,& more of what actually keeps us safe.

The lies from the Police Officers Association are sickening.

They're telling anyone who'll listen that the City Council already defunded the police (when it was the mayor, and they know that)

They are using the death of a young Black man to make the case for even more policing. Image
We can't emphasize enough how critical it is to pushback on these lies.

City council members are under immense pressure, from pro cop forces, to vote for Libby's budget, which would increase the police budget by 11%.

We can't let them get away with this.
Despite 10s of thousands taking to the streets last year, Atlanta voted to increase the police budget.

Here in the Bay, San Francisco plans to do the same. Vallejo did it last week.

Who are we, Oakland? What kind of future do we want our city?

We are thrilled and stunned by the verdict but we want people to be clear we haven’t solved white supremacy and anti Blackness. The people must know that it was the people who got this conviction. We know that when we organize, we win, and today is proof of that.
Some thoughts...
This decision gives momentum to people to keep organizing, it gives us a boost of energy at a time when we’re seeing a bloodbath at the hands of law enforcement at Contra Costa country.
There is a danger that folks will think the courts will take care of us. The exact opposite is true. The State wants us to do just that, to go home. To think they got this & that our people will be safe. The reality is that every day the cops kill Black and Brown people.

We're live now.

James Burch, APTP policy director is on with @CatsCommentary, APTP co founder, and @ChaneyTurner. The purpose of the convo is to reimagine public safety and defund OPD.

Cat Brooks is now breaking down what @MHFirstOak is...
Cat just gave an overview of how we got MACRO in Oakland. It started w/APTP’s own project @MHFirstOak. We started this because we want to be visionary, not reactionary. We had a convo about how we can reduce police terror. Police didn’t always used to be the answer to everything.
