BANNED at the BULLOCK MUSEUM! Tonight @bryanborrough and I were supposed to talk about the craft of writing with Becka Oliver from @WritersLeague. Just hours before the even, @BullockMuseum canceled without contacting Bryan or I with an explanation. #ForgettheAlamo A thread ...
A @BullockMuseum employee says they had to cancel following a social media campaign by rightwingers and an order from the board, which includes @GovAbbott, @DanPatrickTX, @DadePhelan and @DrSchwertner. Apparently, they worry true Texas history might get out. #ForgettheAlamo
@BullockMuseum @GovAbbott @DanPatrickTX @DadePhelan @DrSchwertner After all, we’re in demand following glowing reviews from Texas history professors writing in @WSJ and @washingtonpost. Our book has been recommended by @nytimes, @vanityfair, @publishersweekly and @kirkus. We’ve done many events where historians praise our work. #ForgettheAlamo
@BullockMuseum @GovAbbott @DanPatrickTX @DadePhelan @DrSchwertner @WSJ @washingtonpost @nytimes @VanityFair @kirkus But we don’t regurgitate the propaganda that Abbott’s Texas 1836 Project wants to promote. We reject the Heroic Anglo Narrative that came from white supremacists in the 19th century. We promote a more holistic and honest view of Texas’s glorious history. #ForgettheAlamo
@BullockMuseum @GovAbbott @DanPatrickTX @DadePhelan @DrSchwertner @WSJ @washingtonpost @nytimes @VanityFair @kirkus Oliver at @WritersLeague wants to reschedule because she believes in freedom of speech and an open exchange of ideas. We will not be censored by @BullockMuseum's clumsy cancel culture. Ironic that the state’s conservative leaders would pull a stunt like this. #ForgettheAlamo
@BullockMuseum @GovAbbott @DanPatrickTX @DadePhelan @DrSchwertner @WSJ @washingtonpost @nytimes @VanityFair @kirkus @WritersLeague If @GovAbbott, @DanPatrickTX, @DadePhelan and @DrSchwertner are not behind this decision, then we will graciously accept @BullockMuseum’s invitation to reschedule. If we don’t get an invite, well, we’ll have confirmation of what happened. #ForgettheAlamo
We have to wonder, how far will they go? Will they ban us from state college campuses? Will they ban our book at the Alamo and Bullock gift shops? Will they ban us from the State Capitol during the Texas Book Festival? #ForgettheAlamo
If you wanted proof that Abbott and the GOP leadership is inclined toward dictatorship and punishing dissidents, here is your proof. Kicking us out of an event @BullockMuseum would have been unthinkable five years ago, what do they have planned for the next five? #ForgettheAlamo

Unemployment is at record lows, but the uninsured rate is growing; the economy is expanding, but so is poverty. A thread and a column about why conservative promises about trickledown economics didn’t pan out. houstonchronicle.com/business/colum… @HoustonChron #txlege
@HoustonChron The rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer despite a record-long economic expansion and massive tax cuts. And nowhere is America’s economic divide more evident than in Texas.
@HoustonChron Houston employers have complained for years about a workforce shortage, with the unemployment rate below 4.5% for two years. Companies should offer better pay and benefits. But Houston’s uninsured rate is the worst in the, more than double the national rate of 8.5%.
