1/ @NewsGuardRating has come after Alachua Chronicle, claiming we publish "misinformation." They completely ignored the vast quantity of original reporting on the site (I cover nearly every city and county commission meeting in detail, plus some school board meetings,...
2/
various crime stories, and other investigative work) and instead highlighted 2 letters to the editor, 2 submitted opinion pieces (one by an M.D.), and a factual news story.
3/ This is clearly marked as a letter to the editor. Here's what Newsguard said:

alachuachronicle.com/letter-lockdow…
4/ This is clearly marked as an opinion piece and links to LOTS of sources. This is particularly ironic because JAMA Peds had a study this week about the reality of hypercapnia with face masks.

Newsguard's take:

alachuachronicle.com/harold-saive-f…
5/ This is a letter to the editor that incorporates a piece from a medical doctor. Newsguard's take:

alachuachronicle.com/letter-neurosu…
6/ This article is completely factual and does not make the claims that Newsguard refutes. Newsguard's take:

alachuachronicle.com/dangerous-path…
7/ This is another opinion piece written by a medical doctor who treats COVID patients. But Newsguard thinks they know better:

alachuachronicle.com/behind-the-mas…
8/ Newsguard appears to be yet another "fact-checking organization" that in fact exists to promote propaganda and discredit any outlet that dares to publish dissenting opinions or even factual information that goes against the narrative.

Treat their conclusions accordingly.
Twitter doesn't do a good job of displaying both links and images. Note that the links to the stories are in the same tweets as the comments from Newsguard.
Lol, response from the NewsGuard investigator by email: "I am aware that the majority of these pieces are labeled as opinion, and I've noted that the website clearly distinguishes its opinion articles from news stories...
"However, we consider false information written as a statement to be false regardless of how it is labeled. "

I could have a field day with the non-factual statements made on a daily basis in the letters and opinion pieces in almost any newspaper...

Love this from @brianjburgess: "With little fanfare, Florida’s victory over the COVID-19 pandemic came on June 4th, 2021"

1/5

thecapitolist.com/the-wrap-desan…
"In a move that has already proven more liberating than declaring an end to mask mandates and limited capacity indoor dining, Florida Gov Ron DeSantis single-handedly defeated the virus this month with the simple act of ending Florida’s daily reporting of virus statistics"
2/5
'Shifting our collective attention away from that daily drip of bad news has the effect of ending our collective public “analysis paralysis,” as if we’re all suddenly waking from a coronavirus coma and walking out into the sunshine for the first time in over a year.'

My article on the ruling yesterday by the Florida 1st DCA that Alachua County's mask mandate is "presumptively unconstitutional" - kudos to attorney Jeff Childers @jchilders98 for the big win!

1/9
Governmental mask mandates in the 32 counties in the First District of Florida must now be presumed to be unconstitutional after yesterday’s ruling by the First District Court of Appeals (1st DCA) on a lawsuit brought by business owner Justin Green against Alachua County.

2/9
Judge Tanenbaum began by describing the mask mandate in Alachua County, using terms like “fiats,” “diktats,” and “whispering informants”... Tanenbaum even included a picture of Alachua County’s mandated sign in the order.

This Buzzfeed article from August is interesting because it promises "an intense vaccine safety monitoring effort"

1/7

buzzfeednews.com/article/danver…
"One important step is letting people know right now that the FDA and CDC are planning an intense vaccine safety monitoring effort, said Vanderbilt University’s Kathryn Edwards, scientific director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program.

2/7
"Her program will be headquarters for a consortium with six other schools running a 24-hour hotline for doctors with any safety questions once a coronavirus vaccine is available.
