1/ "Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies." 1 Cor 8:1

The context of this passage is in conscience pertaining to Christian liberty, in this case, meat being sacrifices to idols.
2/ Paul shares two points that wound when they are separated regarding conscience and exercising liberty.

"Knowledge makes arrogant"

"but love edifies"

"γνῶσις" (knowledge) in this instance is "experiential knowledge". It is knowledge gained from first hand experience.
3/ In other words it is knowledge gained from experiences you have encountered. This knowledge can be helpful in keeping us from making horrendous decisions that reaped terrible consequences.

This could also be a knowledge gleaned from rigorous study of Scripture or field...
4/...of expertise. Experience is the heart of this knowledge and one of the dangers of experiential knowledge is that experience can lead us astray. Gnosis is where the term "Gnosticism" comes from. Gnostics believed there was a hidden inner knowledge that they had to seek...
5/...within themselves, so their "spiritual experiences" in pursuit of this truth made them unwavering in their error.

One only has to look at Bethel Church and their "personal experiences" w/ God the Father & Christ the Son (demons acting like they are 2 members of the Trinity)
6/ Another modern day example of experiential knowledge gone wrong is "victim mentality". The problem is that our feelings left unchecked will eisegete themselves into our experiences and if we are not careful we will find ourselves clinging to lies.
7/ With this in mind, in the context of "experiential knowledge" in v1 is "makes arrogant". The Greek word is φυσιόω (phusioo). The word literally means "to inflate/to blow up/to puff up".

The implication of "inflating" is making your head or ego big (pride). You think...
8/...you know it all because you have studied a subject or a topic or have "personal experience" regarding something, so you make YOURSELF the authority on the matter. You are always right.

Paul is pointing out that if we are not careful, our sin nature can take...
9/...this knowledge or perceived knowledge that we have gleaned & use it to harm others. Within the context this knowledge in a mature Christian might have them exercise their liberty to eat the meat sacrificed to idols because they know that Christ is King.
10/ On the other hand the newer believer who may have come out of these pagan cults will be made more sensitive to seeing another believer eating this meat because their experiential knowledge reminds them of the idols they worshipped. It may carry painful memories...
11/...from when they were dead in their trespasses. They would be tempted to look down upon this mature brother or sister eating this meat.

So, if we allow experiential knowledge alone to dictate our decisions then we will become puffed up/inflated in our pride.
12/ The second point is that "love edifies". Love is ἀγάπη (agape). It is the Greek love that is benevolent, charitable, and unconditional in light of the best or worst circumstances. A good example is Christ still loving the believer even after they have sinned.
13/ Love "edifies" is οἰκοδομέω (oikodomeo). Oiko is "home/house" and domeo means "to build". Properly, "to build a house". The implication is building someone up.

Love by itself is like a compass without the red pointer to direct you. I do not believe that Paul is...
14/...condemning experiential knowledge and saying to just use love. He is saying that love and knowledge work together. Knowledge without love puffs up or inflates. It is love and knowledge used together that prevents a believer from exercising a liberty that might harm...
15/...another follower of Christ. Luke 9:23 commands the believer to deny self which is an act of love towards our Savior. In light of a weaker brother the mature believer as an act of love towards his fellow brother or sister should deny themselves if their liberty...
16/...offends their them. Can a Christian exercise their liberty to drink a glass of wine (and not get drunk)? Yes

Should the Christian exercise that liberty in front of a weaker brother or sister that was an alcoholic? By no means!

Love is an action rooted in the denial of self, not the indulging of self. It originates from God, therefore, this attribute can only be shown through those He has regenerated.

True love starts with a love for God first and then trickles down to those around us.
Because true love starts with God, it celebrates the truth of His word (Scripture) as every word is true. Paul said in 1 Cor 13 that "love rejoices in the truth". If you cannot rejoice in every word of Scripture, then you do not love God.

This is why Christ said in John 14:15
"If you love Me, you will obey my commandments."

Conversely, if you don't love God then you will pick and choose the commandment you will obey, or obey none at all.

Love isn't a feeling because feelings are not rooted in truth in light of our corrupt hearts.

"Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are." 1 Cor 3:16-17

The context is about factions. 'I follow Paul...
'...or I follow Apollos'. Paul says in chp. 3 that Christians have a foundation laid by Christ and the Lord uses others to build on it.

Paul then gives a stern warning in v11 that no man can lay another foundation other than Christ. He then goes onto say that those...
...who build on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, straw, and hay will each have their work tested by fire. Those things that survive the fire are true teachings from Scripture. Those that are not Biblical teachings will be burned up. This then leads into...

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" Isaiah 55:20

This is how much God hates sin (evil):

"On this account the anger of the Lord has burned against...
...His people, And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down. And the mountains quaked, and their corpses lay like refuse in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not spent, But His hand is still stretched." Isaiah 5:26
God is a merciful God, mighty to save. That is why He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on our account thereby atoning for the sins of any that believe in Him and turn away from evil.

There is a day of reckoning with God for every human being that has ever lived.

Reading through Romans 7 and 8 this morning. What many miss in context is that Paul in Romans 7:13-25 is that Paul is showing that the Law is spiritual. It is a reflection of God's character. Paul is showing us the war that goes on in every regenerate believer. 1/
2/ The Law points out his evil nature. There is nothing good in him. There is a battle going on in him because he wants to do good and uphold God's Law, but his flesh doesn't because it is opposed to God.

Paul finds himself lamenting that the good he wants to do, he doesn't do.
3/ Instead, Paul practices the very evil he doesn't want to do proving that sin is dwelling in him.

Two things here:

-Paul recognized God's Law as good and desires to do it. It is proof of regeneration. It is the Law that helps Paul to see his wickedness & long not to do it.

I just don't understand those who advocate for CRT, maybe because I am regenerated in Christ. Over 700k Greeks were slaughtered by the Ottoman Empire caliphate. They murdered almost everyone on my mom's side, yet I don't hate the Turkish people. I wasn't even alive when...
...the genocide of Greeks and Armenians took place. My dad and most Greeks try to pass the hatred down.

I remember years ago as a bellman helping some Turkish people with their bags. When they found out I was Greek they became uncomfortable, but I told them...
...that I had no animosity towards them like other Greeks do because I was a Christian. I treated them with dignity and respect. They didn't kill my family, and even if they did Scripture commands me to not repay evil for evil to anyone.

The situation diffused immediately.

1/ I am going to put my Screwtape hat on for a second regarding using Christian as an adjective to modify a sin (i.e. Christian Nationalism).

If I wanted to disgrace Christ I would use His name to identify a sin. There will be those who are ignorant, but they aren't the one's...
2/...coining the term. It is coming from leaders within Christendom. Why would a leader call things that are clearly sin "Christian"?

They are trying to not only disgrace Christ, but erode the good associated with Him. Wolves are notorious for such things, not sheep or shepherds
3/ By eroding the good associated with Christ you can change people's perceptions of Christianity. He wants to make Christianity into a threat. If Satan can make it into a perceived threat then it is something that the people would turn against and want eradicated.
