BIG NEWS: after a year and a half of being My Beast Friend, as of this week "Little" Bibbithy "Bibby" D'Babbis Babbis has started approaching my desk and explicitly asking to be lifted into my lap, where he stands on all fours staring at the front door (his favorite stare-target) 
i always wanted a dog that would sit in my lap by choice, though not a big one--not the kind of dog who feels more like a bad roommate when they in your lap. i mean like a small one who just kind of chills there. if only there was a word for that. oh well! back to work
getting bibby to do this has been a YEAR-long process of picking him up and putting him in my lap (aka "lap jail") when he barks too many times, because he can't get down from the chair by himself and it genuinely calms him down. well, now he stands up and asks! NOW back to work
