I was standing on the center inauguration scaffolding after having scaled it to get a better view of the center door. I had heard people chanting “heave-ho!” &thought they were breaking into the hallway. I had no idea the building had been breached because we had no cell service.
When I reached that level I started receiving text messages. A friend sent me a photo of her TV screen and that’s when I found out they had gotten in.
Immediately I texted my friend who was inside to see if she was ok. “Yeah, I got attacked.” Was all she said.
Not one day has gone by without me thinking of January 6.
As a reminder to those who have no seen this before/read the caption: this is the split second light created from a flash bang grenade deployed by law enforcement as the mob was finally cleared. Smoke from tear gas.

Remember the State of the Union speech that happened earlier this week?
I have a couple things to share about it. (Is this where I say THREAD?)
If you know me, you know that I hate talking about or drawing attention to myself.
But I felt the need to share this publicly because of how much it surprised me.
For those of you outside of the DC bubble:
There is a pool floor position at SOTU every year. One news photographer gets it and their photos are distributed to the rest of the news agencies.
There are a handful of other photographers on the floor, but they all work for the gov.
