December 18th, Age 762: Bulma and co finally arrive on Namek but discover the story arc has started without them. While Freeza already has three dragon balls, the Namekians rapidly deplete his supply of mooks. Even Cranberry is lost to Zarbon’s friendly fire. #HistoryofEver
Vegeta arrives soon after Team Bulma and makes short work of Kewi and Dodoria. Zarbon takes him a little longer, but by the 20th Freeza is completely out of staff on Namek. Fortunately he’s already summoned the Ginyu Force (on holiday from their Yardrat invasion). ETA: 5 days.
The supreme importance of Zarbon kicking Cranberry is spelt out in Toyotaro’s DBS vol.10 bonus manga, which explains how this is what enabled Cranberry to return to life, which by extension sets off the entire Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc in the fullness of time. ImageImageImageImage
Despite all the back-and-forth shenanigans and the lack of any night, the Namek arc’s timeline is relatively straightforward. Bulma and Vegeta arrive at about the same time, Bulma phones home, and Goku leaves 2 hours after Roshi gets the call. ImageImageImageImage
Goku’s trip is said to take 6 days, and once he gets there it’s all one battle after another, making for one super long day (the longest in the original manga, in fact). So that makes the time spent on Namek a total of 7 days counting from Team Bulma’s arrival. ImageImageImageImage
Day 1 (December 18th per the Daizenshuu’s reckoning): Team Bulma/Vegeta arrive, Vegeta kills Kewi and Dodoria, and Kuririn+Dende set out for the Great Elder. On Earth, Goku begins his 6 day training cruise, and chats with Kaio about his new house guests. ImageImage
Day 2 (December 19th): Zarbon beats Vegeta and takes him back to Freeza’s ship for healing and questioning. Freeza (via Appule) puts in a call for the Ginyu Force, who are due in 5 days. Kuririn+Dende are 5 hours away from the Great Elder, but decide to sleep first. ImageImage
(Goku ends up arriving on the same day as the Ginyu Force, although slightly later for dramatic purposes. This checks out: he begins his 6 day journey, then a day passes before the Ginyu Force begin their 5 day trip. Who knows why Freeza apparently thinks in terms of Earth days)
(That said, the transition between Day 1 and Day 2 is never explicitly stated, although my best guess is that Goku’s talk with Kaio and co marks the spot, since Goku’s training scenes are used to mark later time skips. Though this means Goku works his way up to 50G pretty quick) ImageImage
The narrator helpfully explains that Planet Namek has no nightfall, which is the lead-in to Day 3 (December 20th). Kuririn+Dende wake up and finally arrive at the Great Elder’s, while Vegeta recovers and kills Appule and (with slightly more difficulty) Zarbon. ImageImage
(The Japanese narration explicitly says that a day or so passes, while Viz’s narration is more poetic than explicit)
Kuririn reunites with Gohan and they set out for a return trip to the Great Elder’s, while Vegeta sits and does his level best to sense them. The scene shifts to Goku in space, who the narrator says has been training for 4 days, thus putting this on Day 5 (December 22nd). ImageImageImageImage
(In Japanese the narrator also starts out by describing this scene as two days later, which Viz leaves out) ImageImage
Another day passes during Goku’s training montage, thus putting us on Day 6 (December 23rd). Goku has one day left to reach Namek, which he decides is best spent resting (a principle he later applies in the lead-up to the Cell Games) ImageImageImageImage
Tomorrow: ‘twas the night before Christmas! Image

Late Age 762 to early 763: rumors of Freeza’s death are greatly exaggerated. King Cold comes out of retirement to fetch his son from the remains of Namek and give him a cyborg upgrade. Hopefully they got charged a better rate than Tao. #HistoryofEver
Goku’s likewise not nearly so dead as supposed. While Kaio’s not looking, he escapes Namek in a Ginyu Force ship, which takes him to the group’s last target: Yardrat, a world outside Galactic Patrol jurisdiction but overseen by Elder Pybara, the master of Spirit Control.
Goku tells the Yardratians about his role in the Ginyu Force’s defeat (and even the part Vegeta played), thus earning their eternal gratitude. They give him some of their native garb to replace his beat-up clothes, and he begins learning Spirit Control from Pybara. ImageImageImageImage

December 24th, Age 762: the Ginyu Force arrive on Namek. Goku arrives on Namek. Goku beats the Ginyu Force. Freeza beats everybody else. Goku gets mad. #HistoryofEver
Yes, Goku’s S-Cells finally kick into high gear. It’s far too much for filler land’s computers to handle! Plus we learn an awful lot about Kewi’s race. Apparently Freeza wiped them out, but promised the survivors he’d make them prosper again. Talk about an abusive relationship.
To recap: Goku begins a six-day trip on Day 1 of the Namek arc, the Ginyu Force start a five-day trip on Day 2, so both arrive on Day 7. In the meantime, Vegeta kills Zarbon on Day 3 and spends the next four days trying to locate Kuririn+Gohan as they head for the Great Elder. ImageImageImageImage

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai ep.38: almost as if they’re making up for lost time, this episode moves the plot forward a ton. It’s the first time in awhile I’ve felt the pacing’s a bit too fast, but I do like Popp reuniting with his family. 3.25/5 #DragonQuest #ep38 ImageImage
The kanji say 世界会議/sekai kaigi/“world summit” (or world conference/convention/etc), while the furigana indicates it should be read as the English word “summit”, which is what characters say throughout, and the CR subs use “world summit”. Anyway, it’s a big meeting. Image
世界会議 is also used for the reverie (levely) in One Piece, with furigana likewise used to indicate the unusual reading. Image

November 21st, Age 762: after much finagling, Bulma and co head off to Namek in Kami’s old spaceship. Seven days later, Vegeta reaches Planet Vegeta No.79 and has a chat with his old rival Kewi, while in filler land Bulma and co run into some of Kewi’s victims. #HistoryofEver
Kewi’s not the only one in Freeza’s forces who’s been busy. Right around now, the Ginyu Force are attacking Planet Yardrat, home to a race who utilize Spirit Control for a variety of seemingly disparate techniques. Vegeta likes the Ginyu Force about as much as he does Kewi.
After the Saiyan battle, we skip to the hospital the next day. Kuririn and Gohan are due to be discharged in three days, while Goku will take far longer, barring any magic beans (fan lore has it that this is “Wukong Hospital, even though the sign looks more like “We—kong”) ImageImage

November 3rd, Age 762: at exactly 11:43 (East City Time), Vegeta and Nappa finally land on Earth. They take out East City and confront Piccolo and co by 12:20. Soon Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Tenshinhan (and six Saibaimen) are all dead, before Vegeta calls a timeout. #HistoryofEver
After three hours of waiting for Goku, the battle begins again, and Piccolo (and Kami and the dragon balls) die before Goku finally arrives. Meanwhile, Gero’s spy robot has a field day. So many cells, so little time! It’s a shame Goku still kinda sucks at the Kamehameha though…
Goku takes out Nappa with the Ken he learned from Kaio, and even gives Vegeta a run for his money, but fails to finish the job. By now the sun is starting to set (so this battle has lasted many hours, even apart from the 3 hour wait), and Vegeta has an idea… ImageImageImageImage
