Yusuf Sahab joined All India Muslim OBC Organization (AIMOBCO) in 1990 after coming in contact with Marathi Dalit activist Vilas Sonwane, who was founder of AIMOBCO and Hassan Kamal, a Pasmanda Muslim lyricist of Hindi movies and Shabbir Ansari, President of AIMOBCO.

It was due to pressure built by AIMOBCO led by Vilas Sonwane, Hassan Kamal, Shabbir Ansari and support of legendary Dilip Sahan, who used his position to further case of Pasmanda Muslims that Maharashtra government in 1994 included Pasmanda Muslims in Maharashtra OBC category.
DILIP KUMAR had reportedly also met Baba Sahab Ambedkar and perhaps that was genesis of his own reflection of caste discrimination in Muslim community, which he was culturally aware of being a Pathan himself.
Lastly,
Dilip Sahab was abused, taunted, belittled & even religious fatwas were issued against him by upper caste Ashraf Maulanas for his Pasmanda activism, which they declared "kufar" and un-Islamic. But he never cared.
